I think the review was right to point out the condition of the physical release that was received.
Eh, it came across as a bit weird, like how people on Amazon leave 1 star reviews on products arriving damaged rather than leaving actual reviews about the product itself. Not every retailer ships stuff the same way.

For example, I recently ordered the Afro Samurai SteelBook and Attack on Titan: The Final Chapters Limited Edition from RACS as that's where I've taken my business for certain publishers following the shutdown of Right Stuf as I try to avoid the Crunchyroll Store (I don't want to reward them for what they did), and Robert like usual shipped things in a box with packing peanuts (they're annoying to deal with, but they work well enough), and everything arrived flawless. Say what you will about Robert (Ex: Charging full MSRP or above MSRP on many OOP items), but he does care how stuff arrives, especially now so he can attract former Right Stuf customers.

This then brings up the question, if I were to review Vinland Saga Season 2 on Blu-ray, should I bring up how it arrived from RACS and factor that in the score? I don't really think so. Bringing up downgrading the "premium packaging" would have been better suited for This Week in Anime.

I feel like packing quality has really nosedived, everywhere I order from, in the past few years.
Blame focusing on quantity over quality. Companies want to fill orders more quickly, and want to fit more stuff on a truck at one time. More packing materials means more time and money and increases costs. The retailers don't care how the product(s) arrive, only that you gave them money. Then similarly you have issues with the delivery companies, they want to do more with fewer workers at less pay so more money goes to those at the top. Then there's the deliberate sabotaging of the USPS with starve the beast to manufacture consent of privatizing it. "See, [service or good the government provides] doesn't work, only private industry can do better." and then we end up paying more for something that used to be a public service or good.

It's disappointing to here we are getting a classic Sentai bare bones release instead of a special edition like the first season. A+ content deserves an A+ release. Oh well, there's no way I won't be buying this. One of my favourite anime offerings of all time.

Pretty sure this is a Crunchyroll bluray and not a Sentai release. Does CR even do many special editions??

FUNimation rebranded itself as Crunchyroll, LLC in March 2022, so Crunchyroll releases are basically FUNimation releases, so yes. FUNimation brought back Limited Editions in 2011, and even after the rebranding they still do LEs, but not as often (especially the past few months), and increasingly we're seeing instances of one season getting an LE (some released before FUNimation rebranded as Crunchyroll, LLC), then the next not getting one. They have also been giving some regular editions art cards in the initial pressing (they also did this sometimes when they were still named FUNimation). Despite the decrease in the number of LEs, they still do them more often than Sentai (which BTW gave S1 this).

Here's all the CR Limited Edition releases so far: release#49717, release#51445, release#45776, release#50146, release#50147, release#50148, release#49724, release#45778, release#44546, release#48276, release#47051, release#43293, release#46135, release#46791, release#43410, release#49727, release#46771, release#46774, release#46764, release#46448, release#49726, release#46349, release#43883, release#48569, release#45386, release#43413, release#51452, release#45817, release#45773, release#45780, release#47331, release#48910, release#48911, release#44551, release#46759, release#44541, release#48567, release#43296, release#43297, release#49730, release#49715, release#46539, release#49721, release#46377, release#46467, release#46238, release#49725, release#47085, release#51454, release#51456, release#43300, release#47176, release#47215, release#43880, release#44350, release#46381, release#50848, release#44996, release#50154, release#48281, release#48913, release#47339, release#46246, release#44998

Yeah, I'd say they've done many since June 2022 (first slate with the Crunchyroll branding).

You are correct, sir, my mistake. Because Sentai released Season 1 (as a special edition), I assumed they did season 2.

I agree, Aleks Le over disgraced Mike Haimoto.

wait so thats why he got replaced?

UGH!

its beyond stupid and frustrating that there are VAs like him, scott freeman and mignonga will completely squander their careers and god given talents for being complete idiots when there are a majority of us anime fans (myself included) that would literately give up an arm and a leg to have their type of anime VA careers let one their vocal talents before they decided to waste it!

that's not it. Vinland Saga has two separate dubs with two separate casts: one by Netflix with Aleks Le,and the other by Sentai(season 1) and Crunchyroll(season 2) with Mike Haimoto. Accusations about Haimoto's abusive behavior became public when he was still recording for season 2,but strangely,CR actually let him finish his work before cutting ties with him(and he's been pretty much blacklisted from the industry since then)

When the company responsible for the product is the same company that is responsible for shipping it, I think it makes total sense. If Sony/Crunchyroll wants to have its brand associated with every aspect of anime distribution, then it's only fair that it be reflected throughout. I would probably agree that mentioning it might be misplaced if it came from a third party, but I think a company should care more about its own products. In this specific instance, Sony bought a retailer known for caring about how packages arrived, and has let that slip.

Woo! Nothing speaks authenticity quite like vikings speaking Japanese...
They didn't speak American English, either.

Except from the fact that modern English is roughly 15-20% derived from Old Norse going as far back as the 11th century, right down to the synonym pairs. And 20% of a language is still one fifth of said language.

Guess how much Japanese is derived from Old Norse. Just guess. I'll wait.
