I was going through Bandai Entertainment's catalog, and it seems like all or most of their shows that are 2+ years old have inexpensive "Anime Legends" releases.

I want to buy the original Gundam series, but even at $10 a disc, I'd have to pay $100 for an old show that's missing an episode and is only available dubbed in English. I noticed that many of Bandai's previous Gundam releases already have Anime Legends boxsets out, but this is not so for First Gundam, even though it was originally released quite a while ago.

Any ideas why not? Might they re-release the series in the near future?

I think it was bad sales (ie3 the singles sold badly and they decide to not re-release in an AL pack)

(note King Gainer was a victim of this as well)

I believe that someone posted the reason for the dub only was the fact that it was not out on DVD in Japan yet and there was a fear of reverse import. This series has since been remastered and released in Japan so although it did poorly in sale there is a slightly better chance of it being rereleased, especially if the UC titles actually gain popularity via AL Zeta, or a new series. Personally I remain a bit skeptic on seeing it rereleased anytime soon.

I seem to remember hearing something to the effect that due to improper storage, the original Japanese audio track had not survived, thus the English dub was the only audio available. Is this incorrect, or did they re-record the Japanese track as part of a remastering?
