What anime would you like to see get a reboot because the original was a disappointed in adapting the source material?

I think I will start with Groove Adventure Rave, Hiro was asked about this, this past weekend and he wasn't interested (though how much of that would be his call and besides money is money). I do have fond memories of the original anime, I do wish he got to finish adapting the manga.

But one that I don't have fond memories of is Rosario + Vampire, the anime is what is it, I don't hate that much, but the manga ruled and to see that story never get adapted is a bummer.

It's an interesting question but not one that I'm a candidate to answer since I almost never read source material first and then watch the adaptation. About the only way that could ever happen to me is if Yotsuba&! ever got an anime which apparently the mangaka refuses to let happen. But if it did and the anime sucked then I'd have something to contribute. I haven't seen Lunar Legend Tsukihime nor am I familiar with the source material, but based on posts at ANN I have seen in the past, I think a few peeps would nominate it for this category. The running joke at one time is that a lot of fans refused to even acknowledge that the anime ever happened.

@Blood-

Concerning Lunar Legend Tsukihime, I have watched it and enjoyed it as a stand alone story. It does give the feeling that there is a lot going on that wasn't covered and could probably use a better ending.

A while back I dug into some of the complaints. Apparently there is a great deal that wasn't covered. The problem is that like Fate Stay Night it is based on a game (from the same people actually). The game has multiple routes, each based on a different girl and each with its own ending. LIke the original Fate Stay Night TV series, they tried to encompass the whole thing in a single adaptation and they tried to do it in one cour instead of two like Fate Stay Night. Fate Stay Night ended up requiring multiple movies and TV series to mostly cover three routes. No idea what it would take to cover Lunar Legend Tsukihime.

I agree it could definitely use a complete retelling but I'm not sure how you would do that. Possibly a single cour to cover the setup and an additional cour or movie for each route?? That is an awful lot of anime to commit to.

Thanks for the clarification, Alan45. I own the series and plan to watch it one of these days.

Detractors to the contrary, it is worth watching for itself.

Anno/Studio Khara remaking Fushigi no Umi no Nadia (Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water) to prune out or redo the less good parts of the original.

Most everything I've wanted a reboot has already been made or is being made but probably Tsubasa Chronicles and Holic since the original anime adaptations never got to finish the story. And now with CLAMP nostalgia being a thing with CCS and Rayearth and the Holic manga coming back next year, now would be the best time for it. Probably the only other show would be maybe Ouran for the same reasons.

The 1998 Trigun is a classic and did the best it could with what little source material was available at the time (minus some changes to characterization) but the one thing I want in my lifetime is a faithful 1/1 adaptation of the manga.

The 1998 show Neo Ranga, which is my favorite candidate for #1 show where the plot eventually makes no sense and just kind of disappears. There may be worse out there, but I never saw those. I just want the opening music, and then a reboot can go in any direction it wants, even leaving out the kaiju/ giant critter if they want.

Zetman for me. The 2010s anime adaption was a huge letdown because the manga is fanastic. A great series inspired by The Guyver franchise.

i hate to say it but NO anime adaptation of ANY manga will EVER be able to be 1/1 as Dororo 2019 wasn't adapted 1/1from the manga which had been completed for 50 years at that point.

I think I'm technically bending the rules of the premise here, but my first nomination would have to be Angel Densetsu, a fantastic manga series that only ever got... a single OVA. It was short, and not very good.

After that, well... I'd have to say Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer. A fantastic manga, a very painful adaptation. Though, honestly, I'd rather see an attempt made at animated Spirit Circle.

Other than that, I can't really think of many cases where the anime adaptation was so disappointing I'd want the whole thing done over. If anything, I'd rather see certain older, low-budget anime from the 70s and 80s remade, just because the animation wasn't particularly good by contemporary standards, and can be even harder to tolerate by modern standards. Space Battleship Yamato 2199 would be my go-to example for what I'd be looking for in that respect, though the new Lupin series' also (kind of) fit.
