Hahaha, oh man, the timing. I'm nearly at the end of Iron-Blooded Orphans in my physical backlog, and had the Planetes DVDs queued up to start on Nov 10, might have to jump on ordering that instead (I could stream it, sure, but that defeats the joy of marching through the tangible).

I'm still honestly surprised that they are releasing Planetes considering that their physical release slate has shriveled up to a tiny fraction compared to pre-merger Funimation.

Love this one. There's actually a character in this with my name, shit you not. The first name's spelt different, but it's pronounced the same. Boss.

I love this series, although I haven’t rewatched it in decades. :(
Will the CR BDs have all of the old Bandai US DVD extras, such as the interviews with NASA people about space debris? I think that I’ve purchased the Japanese BDs, and the UK ones. Will the CR release provide anything more than just the UK set on Region “A” discs that might cause me to buy their release? Even if it’s just the show itself, I’d like to see it sell reasonably well. :) |

Unfortunately Crunchyroll's upcoming Blu-ray for Planetes is very barebones. No extras listed except for textless opening and closing songs: https://store.crunchyroll.com/products/planetes-the-complete-series-blu-ray-704400110290.html |

Honestly, I say screw crappyroll-I'm just gonna buy the Planetes Blu-ray Box 5.1 ch Surround Editon jp bd set used and add the subs and english audio from my old Bandai dvd set and be done with it.

Aside from the mentioned creditless videos, none of the extras are included, not from the DVDs, not from the Japanese BDs and even the remixed Japanese 5.1 track is missing. The UK release has everything except the NASA extras so there's definitely some legit clearance issues with those. |

I got this on BD a year ago, it has a pretty good dub. Though it was weird at first, hearing Steve Blum play a soft-spoken character, I've only seen a couple of other roles from him like that.

I wonder what the reasoning is for the lack of the DVD extras. This isn't exactly a new trend -- very few of my BRDs have many extras, period, and while such things weren't exactly common on DVD... they weren't unheard of. And some DVDs got quite the special treatment. Surely it's not just because they feel obligated to present everything in HD, and don't want to pay for any upscaling?
.... Anyway, this is VERY exciting news for me: I've had the UK BD set in my A,axon cart, constantly shuffled back and forth between the active card and saved for later cart, for several years now. I need a BRD release of Planaetes so badly I've very nearly bought discs I'd never be able to actually play. With this, just about the only classic anime I'm still holding out hope for seeing on BRD would be... Azumanga, I think. |

Oh dang, well that's unfortunate. Way to skimp out any interesting educational contents Crunchyroll. Anyway, glad to see Planetes has been made available on both BR and on streaming courtesy of CR. If anyone out there is a fan of Space Brothers, then you'll probably love Planetes. |
