Speaking of queer manga, Gravitation needs a bit of a boost in Amazon rankings.

You mentioned the Libby app, but talked a about libraries in other states being “black market” — but there are some libraries that explicitly support folks living in book-banning areas.
For example: https://www.bklynlibrary.org/books-unbanned |

Oh, I thought it was an actual book ban.
Not putting a book in a school isn't a book ban. |

It's banned somewhere, and that's enough for it to count. |

Is it banned-banned or just a case of "we're not obliged to stock it here"? Like, if a girl brings it from home to read in her own time between classes would she get suspended or would they just confiscate it or do nothing at all? |

Taking a book out of a school library is a ban. |

We literally define the term in the podcast that's supposed to be discussed in this thread. |

Yeah but the book is not actually banned in Florida. It just got pulled from a school in Florida. You can still find it and own it elsewhere in Florida perfectly fine. Like Lynzee said, they had to add qualifiers to their interpretation of the phrase in order to discern it from an actual book ban. |

@Tagzale
Pedantry over the meaning of "ban" is just muddying the waters. |

You're wrong. But even given doubt, they sure are trying to go further than just schools, HB 4654 in West Virginia (passed in February), quote, erases criminal liability protections for public libraries, museums and schools that display "obscene matter to a minor," when the child is not accompanied by a parent or guardian." And in Idaho, HB 710 (passed in July), quote, "forces librarians in public schools and libraries to relocate books deemed “harmful” to youth to “an area with adult access only.”" So instead of outright banning which might run into that pesky 'Freedom of Speech', they are trying to obstruct the access by hiding behind the 'obscene' and 'harmful' clauses to accomplish the same thing...America, where are you heading? If there's any ray of hope to be seen, many libraries in Blue states, and Canada, are joining in a network of book 'sanctuaries', places that specifically collect, make available, and promote books subjects to bans and such. |
