I've been waiting for this episode ever since reading it in the manga. I'm kinda sad they skimmed over the firewood expedition chapter(s)... But they're doing a decent job with the Chaos Camp chapter(s). (The anime tones it down a bit but retains the essential flavor.)

I... didn't notice a single thing about the rustic town or the restaurant decor. At this point backgrounds are phasing out from my vision.

Only in her students' imagination could Toba-sensei be a refined and classy drunk instead of the plastered mess she usually is.

And of course this flashback trip ends with them breaking the fourth wall and leaving Akio Ohtsuka to voice the WeTube dog star they imagined following them.

Sakura seems to be purposefully kept something of a mystery. We never learn what she's studying at college. In the movie we're told that she's "been away" for awhile and has recently returned but that's it. No idea where she's been or what she was doing.

I also love in the movie how Aki and Toba-sensei have become drinking buddies.

Nothing quite like driving through cherry blossoms.

I love Nadeshiko and Sakura getting in good sisterly bonding time together.

I thought Aki and Toba-sensei were similar but it definitely feels like Aki is on her way to be a professional alcohol drinker...just hopefully more classy than Toba-sensei.

The new girls finally arrive! Just in time for the new school year and the Outclub's need for new members.

Who wouldn't want a surprise Aoi with her ample Inuko's in the bath?

If I had to guess, I'd wager that Ema is destined to become a landscape artist—and I can't imagine a more perfect addition to the cast than a tiny Bob Ross.

I'm being the opposite: that her interest in "illustrations" made her unfit both for the arts and manga clubs, and her subject of choice this episode (plus what she was working on) says she's more interested in depicting people at places and scenes. Less a beautiful frame of Mt Fuji and more Nadeshiko gobbling skewers in front of Mt Fuji.

The Inuyama Women all share something in common...hair color, eyebrows, goofy grins, and a love of fibbing. To think Aoi would get fooled on April Fools' Day!!! And she never got any wasabi for Akari!

At this point I'm half-expecting 50% of season 4 is going to be Nadeshiko traveling around to see retro trains.

See, Toba-sensei doesn't just shop for booze! She loves her meat that she'll eat with her charges just as much!

Nice to see Rin share something important with her family with Nadeshiko and Sakura. It shows how important Nadeshiko is to her.

My distance glasses were out getting new lenses, so I couldn't catch up on Episodes 10 and 11 until this past weekend. There were two scenes where the photorealistic backgrounds were especially jarring, and I think both were in Ep. 11.

One was a shot where Nadeshiko and Sakura were looking up at something. They were pictured against a ground of grey crushed rock/gravel, which took up most of the background. The sisters really stood out against it.

The other gave me a better appreciation for this background style's limitations: Chiaki standing near a river during her solo camp. With such a realistic-looking river, I naturally expected to see flowing water. There were also tall grasses in the foreground, which, in real life, would be gently swaying thanks to said water, and whatever wind there might be. That both were missing made the scene less real, not more. It was like Aki-chan was inside a photograph, rather than a real place.

That said, while the backgrounds this season work fine for scenes in towns, that's proven to be less the case when it comes to nature. I could suspend my disbelief with the cherry trees, whose branches and blossoms would otherwise rustle in the wind, but less so with a river or stream. Given that this season will mostly catch up with the manga, it will be a long time until a potential Season 4, but if the same studio is involved, I hope they take a good, hard look at what has worked and hasn't worked for the backgrounds and make adjustments where appropriate. They don't have to ditch the photorealism entirely, but they have to make the overall series believable, too.

The anime industry, for whatever reason, seems averse to baggy cargo-wear.

And I thank the heavens for that!

I didn't like this season as much. I think the 4th wall breaking episodes didn't work. I guess there are only so many interesting things this subject can cover, but I do dig the road trips and enjoying the show as a travel and tourism doc.

I'm not sure if this was my favorite season of the show, but it was still solid Laid-Back Camping and I'm glad they made time for one group camp trip in the final episode.

A possible bear attack is the worst when you've got to pee.

I love how Toba-sensei started drinking within two minutes of being at the campsite.

So many cherry blossoms to herald the end of the Spring anime season. Also amazing time-lapse, Nadeshiko!

Guess the two new girls will be relevant in season 4.
