Or you could try to persuade users that haven't submitted a new nomination yet to submit a duo that you have in mind. I'm sure if they're as great as you say they're are, you'll have no problem finding someone. |
The problem would be finding someone who has watched the series, liked it as much as me and is on the forums and hasn't already nominated a different duo. |
Yeah. I've kind of given up on getting Kiba and Cheza into the tournament. Despite the fact that they wander the world for infinity in pursuit of each other, and Kiba gives up enough blood protecting her to keep Dracula in house arrest for a month with Shia Lebouf in that really bad Rear Window remake.
But I haven't given up on Howl and Sophie! Lend a hand, folks, it's one of the sweetest most touching fantasy romances since Beauty and the Beast. (Oh, wait, it IS Beauty and the Beast.)
How many couples do we have total in the accepted ring now? How many pending couples can we squeeze in?
EDIT: Well, after looking at posts below me...LET THE MAD LOBBY-FEST BEGIN!

Thats a problem for me haha. I'm too keen on backing my nominations but should my nominations not get selected I will back Sophie and Howl.

I seconded them a while back. I also seconded Tenma and Lunge from Monster but I am having second thoughts about this one.

Nobody has seconded Naomi Armitage and Ross Syllibus? Have people forgotten about Armitage III?

I'd honestly be surprised if 1/3 of the people here have even seen it at all. Though I do agree, except in the case of the Armitage III Dual Matrix movie.

Hunh, I thought I had either nominated or seconded them at some point. Guess not, so I'll do it now.

Again I'm horrendously shocked that there are some duos that I think should be in this aren't nominated. I find it really unfair that shows like Gundam SEED have gotten multiple duo nominations when there are duos such as:
Hideki Motosuwa & Chii - Chobits
and
Keitaro Urashima & Naru Narusegawa - Love Hina
have yet to garner a single nomination.

Okay, we now have 144 characters in the Accepted bracket (over the 128 needed), so this moves us to Part III of the nominations...
From this point forward, you now get one vote for any particular duo and three votes against.
It doesn't matter if you've already used up your three for/against previously, no matter how much you've nominated before, as of right now, you get one vote for a pair and three votes against.
You may use up to two of these votes against one sole duo, and it will count double.
This section of the tournament will utilize the "2-day window rule." Basically, it gets closed exactly 48 hours after the last [EDIT: 3/23] post nomination in the thread (if I fail to close it at exactly the 48 hour mark and another post comes after that point before I closed it, it will count but it will still be closed).
After everything is closed, I will arbitrarily wipe out enough duos until the bracket gets down to 128, starting from the pairs with the least nominations. Then I'll deal with the Tsubasa Chronicle/Cardcaptor Sakura problem (by holding a popular vote), and the tournament will begin as soon as I finish making the bracket.

Mayama and Ayu - Honey & Clover
Takemoto & Morita - Honey & Clover
Hanamoto & Hagu - Honey & Clover |
Since you can only make one nomination, I added Mayama and Ayu. I felt there were a lot of stronger relationships than the 2nd, and the 3rd gets a bit into the spoilers realm.

I will vote against Kamui and Kotori from X since Kamui is so distant and mean to Kotori. He also seems more interested in her brother than her.
I will also vote against Light and L from Death Note since I think they are better suited for a best rival tournament. I think that the term "best" in the best duo contest should mean works positively together, or nicest match. The idea is this other person is what is best for you, or the person who you would most like to be with. Of course I understand the idea of "best" meaning best for the plot or audience, but I prefer the best referring to the character's personal best.
As much as I will hate to do this I will have to vote against Ranpha and Forte from Galaxy Angel since I didn't feel that these two had a particular bond that was much stronger than the other members. This is the same problem with other ensemble series like Bubblegum Crisis, Daphne in the Brilliant Blue, Saiyuki, Gundam Wing, and Azumanga Daioh. Maybe we should have a best team tournament in the future.
I will give a vote for Tsubasa and Hikaru from figure 17 since she was made to be the perfect compliment.

Well I guess I made a mistake with my comment on the duos from Love Hina and Chobits. Guess I was more disheartened to see multiple nominations from the same series when other series had been ignored.
Anyways my vote goes for my own nomination (that is allowed right?):
Takumi Mayama & Yamada Ayumi from Honey & Clover
My votes against go to the following:
Jessie & James from Pokemon
Sanzo & Goku from Saiyuki
Gennouske & Oboro from Basilisk

Well since Ed & Ein haven't been seconded, I would definitly like to keep them in.
I can't decide who to vote against at the moment.

Voting against:
Tomo Takino & Koyomi "Yomi" Mizuhara from Azumanga Daioh
Ed & Ein from Cowboy Bebop
Gennouske & Oboro from Basilisk
While I can see tension between Tomo and Yomi, it isn’t enough to be considered a duo. Moreover, I doubt they would ever want to work together. It is true that they were members of the same group of friends, but I don’t feel like their bond was bond was greater than the bond between the other characters. The ensemble format of this series makes it hard to have any formal duos in my opinion.
I also felt that paring of Ed and Ein is a bit forced. Although, they do hang out together; their lack of any spoken communication prevents them from being developed as a duo. Moreover, I did not believe that there was enough other development to make them a duo. I know that not all duos need to be able speak to each other like Ash and Pikachu, but this is not the case with Ed and Ein. The formalized bond and companionship isn't developed sufficiently to overcome their lack of communication. You can imagine Ed without Ein but not Ash without his Pikachu. They do leave the ship together , but this isn't enough in itself to make them a duo.
Gennousuke And Oboro do not seem like a match either. I felt that their duo relationship was never developed.
Voting for:
Spike Spiegel & Jet Black from Cowboy Bebop
Fellow bounty hunters bound by the bond of their willingness to survive. Their complementary personalities make them the perfect team. I am a little surprised that there hasn’t been more support for this duo. I would think this pair would be a front-runner with the overwhelming popularity of this series.
Edit: To add spoiler tags.

That and by my count there only together in the same place for like 1/3 or less of the series.
