So I guess we can add Max to the ever growing list of subscriptions we need to keep up with anime. That makes at least 5 to my count now.

In the article they did mention that they have been licensing their anime’s to third parties which has been a successful metric for them so I don’t really expect this to change for the most part. I do agree with you on the having too many subscriptions just to watch anime though it’s a bit ridiculous. Personally if an anime I want to watch is not on Netflix, CR or Hidive i pirate it ( I know that’s frowned upon here but I can only pay for so many subs). |

If you read the the article it already states they've been making 5+ series a year since 2011 and none of them have had that issue. Such titles they've been involved in are the successful and popular JoJo's Bizarre Adevnture and SPY x FAMILY, for example. This is merely them stepping up production to do more in a given year. The issues with American companies writing off potential financial failure films or series has nothing to do with this and is probably more of an issue of how volatile and unstable the western market is these days, especially in the realm of animation for non-kid audiences. I assume that is why they've shifting over into the anime market in favor of domestic productions which is more stable and consistent, hense the quote of "anime is one of the best ways to reach the 18 to 30-year-old audience, which is incredibly elusive." And it's very unlikely this is just going to be Batman, But Anime or Bugs Bunny, But Anime and not adaptions of successful manga like they've been doing. Despite the name of the company I would not expect very many Warner Bros IPs involve. Unless Suicide Squad Isekai does very well, perhaps.... The only real concern here I see is potential burnout and the over-extending of resources. |

Is the idea to move over a lot of their domestic animation production to Japan? Because that I could see, if say, they have a Japanese studio animate Creature Commandos. Otherwise this makes no sense.
As an aside, it’s also proof their Cartoon Cartoon initiative (an attempt to find domestic animators similar to the What a Cartoon! program in the mid 90s) washed out. |

It’s kind of a shame because I think companies should be providing more pipelines to nurture new talent, but if the end result wasn’t worth talking about, off to the tax write off hole it goes I suppose. |

WB, the master of tax write off and horrible decision making like Discovery & “animated shows are for children.” Their only strength is really all their animated shows/production and they honestly should have made their animated DC movies the main DCU way back then. They’ve just released part two of DC Infinite Crisis recently w/ the final part later this year (& Kevin Conroy’s ACTUAL last performance) so I’m interested to see what they’ll do w/ the next phase.
I won’t be surprised if the next big DC anime from WB Japan will be a Watchmen anime. |

Hopefully, it could lead to more DC anime beyond Suicide Squad Isekai. I hope to see these:
Superman anime (with character design by Toyotarou, and I want the anime to also make tribute to the late Akira Toriyama. I would love it if Toei Animation could do the honor of be the animation studio since they were involved with the 1988 Superman cartoon. Yes, Toei was involved with a Superman cartoon back in the late 80's, this show came out one year before Dragonball Z debut in Japan, which makes me wonder how many Toei animators that worked on Dragonball Z also worked on the 1988 Superman cartoon.) Batman anime TV series (Given Batman has a lot of love in Japan, I would like/love a Batman anime TV series that can have the same feel like Batman: TAS given Bruce Timm is a big anime fan, and the fact that we had several Batman/Batman-related anime stuff in the past. I want Sunrise Studio/Bandai Namco Filmworks to do the animation given that Sunrise was involved doing animation for several episodes, and The Big O that Batman can work well as a anime TV shows if Sunrise handle it. Also last but not least, Tiger & Bunny shows that Sunrise can do superhero anime really well hence why I want WB to have that studio to worked on a Batman anime) Teen Titan (now I think a lot of you on ANN have watched the 2003-2006 series including Trouble in Tokyo and probably appreciate a lot of anime-styled influence has made the show stand out from other DC animated shows. Since the anime-styled animation seem to fit really well for Teen Titans, why not give Teen Titans an actual anime series for WB and DC. If we can get Studio Trigger, or Science Saru, or both of them to do the animation and it doesn't have to be based on the 2003 series or it's Go! counterpart. Just create a Teen Titan team which consist of Dick Grayson's Robin/Nightwing, Cyborg, Beast Boy, Starfire, Raven, Donna Troy/Wonder Girl, Conner Kent/Kon El's Superboy, Wally West/Kid Flash, Roy Harper/Speedy, Kaldur'ahm/Aqualad, it can have the charm of both 2003 series and Young Justice in it together.) Jack Kirby's New Gods/Fourth World isekai anime(as I stated before on another thread, I always thought the New Gods like New Genesis and Apokolips would look good as an isekai theme anime. Instead of Superman, or any Justice League or any DC superheroes, it'll be an earthling who somehow ended up on New Genesis and have to fight against Darkseid's forces. The plot/storyline should be reminiscent of Aura Battler Dunbine. The earthling protagonist in this New Gods isekai anime will be teamed up and aided by characters like Mister Miracle, Big Barda, Orion, Highfather, The Forever People, Bekka, etc....) Legion of Super-Heroes by Bones Studio (seeing how My Hero Academia did so well, I thought maybe Legion of Super Heroes can be replicated using similar formula found in My Hero Academia if that can translate well in anime format. That's why I want Bones Studio to handle the animation, and I would like the animation team & crew that worked on MHA to do Legion of Super-Heroes). Doom Patrol: A Teen Titan anime spin-off (Somewhere in the above-mentioned Teen Titans anime, I want the Doom Patrol to make an appearance in one of the episode where it can act a back-door pilot for a Doom Patrol anime TV series. Again, I want Studio Trigger/Science Saru or both of them to work on it and have it take place in the same universe as the Teen Titans anime TV series) Super Young Team/Big Science Action anime (Given that Grant Morrison created 2 DC superhero teams based in Japan, it sad that both teams have not made appearances outside of comic book. So I thought why not give these 2 under-rated team a chance to shine outside of comic book. I thought maybe a Super Young Team/Big Science Action anime could give these guy high profile appearance outside of the comic book.) That's my wishlist for WB anime to do, and given that DC Comics is already knee-deep in the anime/manga rabbit-holes already. Hopefully DC Comics will like some of my ideas and maybe take it into consideration. |
