It's like the cast and staff are taking the success of season 1 and building on it in every way possible in season 2 from the animation, direction, and performances. Even the OP is one of the most stunning OP's of this season.

I missed Ichikawa and Yamada so, so much. Probably one of the most natural and gradual romances I've seen in a while (outside Insomniacs After School).

So happy S2 and these reviews are back. I'm already seeing a lot more enthusiasm for S2. The beautiful new OP definitely helped. But I also think word of mouth for S1 has definitely spread and people who bounced off early came back and realized how good it was. I appreciate that this isn't being treated as a "second season" so much as just the continuation that it is as evidenced by the karte numbers. BokuYaba has a strong continuity so it's great to see call backs to episodes 6 (milktea), 9, 10, and 12 all in episode 14. The stand out was Anna opening up about her insecurities which shed new light on why she took getting hit by the basketball so hard. I remember seeing people think it was that Anna's parents were strict or forcing her to do her job, but really it's the complete opposite. Her parents are nothing if not supportive. They encourage her to try new things and support her when she decides to quit. So Anna saw it as letting her mom and manager down when she got hurt for "being a kid." She worries that eventually people will get fed up with her, especially the boy she's started to like so much, and we see that she was still worried about that time Kyo avoided her. He said on their Christmas Eve date that he would tell her if he didn't like something, but she already knew he was too kind to do that. Even when he was in his "murderous intent" phase, Kyo's actions showed the true nature of his character. He was always going out of his way to help her.

Argh, I just love these characters so much. I could go on forever. This season is gonna take us to even higher peaks.

I stayed irritated throughout the first season because of the role reversal of characteristics: Anna was made out to be the weirdo and Kyotaro was the more normal one, and it was not that way in the manga.

The second season seems to have thrown that away and has gotten back more to their manga personalities. The first two episodes were excellent, and I'm looking forward to this season's improvement in writing being continued. This is a favorite manga, and the second season promises to be remarkable. Let's hope that promise is kept.

And I'm still the only who thinks "The Dangers in my Heart" refers to Anna.
I didn't get any flags in the first episode, she was genuinely distraught over her... other... dog but the second episode more than made up for it.

At least Wataru thought it a little odd Anna stuck him in her gym clothes. Where they even cleaned?

As a big fan of the manga since almost its beginning, it's very satisfying for me to see how much effort went into the first and now second season and the appreciation the anime started to get through word of mouth about its narrative qualities and relatable characters.

Could you give an example of the supposedly role reversal? I've been reading the manga for a few years now and I have no idea how you come to this assessment. The first season was almost a 1:1 adaption of the manga, except very few details and the omission of Norio's twitter extras.

Two Goofs in Love is back! Their chemistry is great... basically no brain cells between them, but they're not going to let that hold them back.

Anna has never been reticent with her emotions, but this is probably the most open and overt she's been (even if you entirely ignore the very tropey bed-based antics). Asking, a whole number of times, for him to come to her place more, to do things together more, to say her name lots in what she imagines will be a hot new deep voice. And just whipping out the album of childhood photos. She pretty much considers them to already be a couple doesn't she?

Kyotaro of course still can't really get out of his own head, and despite his imaginary relationship coach making it clear he does read the signals, he can't allow himself to accept them. But he also can't ignore her, or hurt her. He's stuck in a weird purgatory where he refuses to either accept or deny her feelings. As he says at the end, for him, "the only way is through".

It's pretty funny when Ichikawa imagines himself marrying Yamada, it's a shotgun wedding of all things.

It's nice to see more of Yamada's friends and family and Ichikawa getting along with both of them.

Moe is a chaotic wingwoman, Serina is a steady and serious bestie, Chi is a dense goofball, her mom is cute and sweet once you get to know her, and her dad is literally the Armored Titan in human form. She's got great genes.

And Ichikawa for his part is being more open with his desire to be with Yamada and stake his claim for her, which she is happy about. And for her part she's already getting some honmei chocolate for him for Valentine's Day.

I think Serina is, at the very least, suspicious about Anna and Kyotaro's relationship.
I think we can upgrade that to "sees it clearest of everyone". From her third-party vantage point she's free of the insecurity that plagues both Anna and Kyotaro. She's earnest and therefore doesn't really see it to be her place to interfere in the process, any maybe she thinks if they can't get there on their own then it wouldn't work out anyway. But I think she's fairly clear on where both of them stand.

Chi, at the other end of the spectrum, is primarily just distressed by the entire concept of "growing up", and has no room in her brain for such things.

Moe makes this spectrum some sort of triangle shape I guess? Somewhat clued up, but also a bit of an idiot. Proactive but not particularly deliberate. Just a wild ball of good intentions and chaotic outcomes. Still, it mostly works out, pushing both our leads into taking more steps towards acknowledging to themselves (and it Kyotoro's case, his sister) what they want, or don't want, from this relationship.

I kind of figured Kyotaro's sister's mental image of him with a harem would be a shoo-in for episode 15's review screencap, but the surprise wedding is another excellent choice. Laughing

Anna knows she is weird but it's a weirdness she can turn off at will. I still want to see how she acts on TV, to see how far she carries it.

I remember a Valentine's Day action from a different series... if not the show... where the guy made a note of all the girls he got chocolates from, so he could return at least something. He said that even if he didn't care, their feelings were genuine so he wanted to treat them as such. I thought "that's nice".

Here, from Anna regifting the small chocolates other girls gave her to making multiple trips past other classrooms fishing for more chocolates to taking back half the gift she gave Kyotaro in such a clean action I can only think of it as planned... from what she made to the kanji she placed on it being neatly cut in half doesn't make me think "spur of the moment".... are actions which are to me "not nice".

Is my problem that I'm actually paying attention to what she's doing or simply because I'm not ignoring it? "But she's a beautiful girl so it's ok. If Kyotaro did it, then it'd be wrong."

@Animegomaniac

Sounds to me that you have a problem with the idea of a beautiful & insecure it-girl who actively pursues the shy boy she loves, which is weird to me.

This has got to be one of the best Valentine's Day episodes in any anime. All brought together by Yamada and Ichikawa's feelings for each other deepening and being more overt than ever. And being so cute and adorable on top of that.

Not even Haruya showing up again could ruin the great vibes between these two as they easily dismiss him for each other.

Kanzaki and Hara best side-ship.

Also, I have to admit Adachi being a horny idiot is kind of growing on me.

I think this show works so well because it never falls into the trope of taking one step forward 10 steps back. Each episode ends with them understanding a little more while also never spending a single minute of its runtime on anything that feels pointless to the plot.
