I thought Johnny's was an all-male talent agency.

There would still be female employees. There is more to a talent agency than the talents.

This is one of those things that...I don't want to say was an "open secret" but definitely a thing anyone following japanese music kind of knew and understood was happening even if there was never any solid proof. Glad to see the shoe finally drop on this.

Very sadly, the current actions started after the Man Himself died, whether purposefully or by happenstance, so the only punishment he will face is God's judgement. Let all others complicit be prosecuted fully...

There have been other social movements recently that are slowly gaining steam so here's hoping there's a ripple effect.

As I said on my previous post, that's what I'm hoping for in Japan: a #MeToo-styled movement that can lead to whistleblower within Japan's mainstream media and entertainment industry.

Johnny Kitagawa truly is/was Japan's answer to Jimmy Savile. Very extremely unfortunate.

Someone here said that this Johnny Kitagawa might be Japan's answer to Jimmy Savile. For those who might not know,he was a British celebrity who also had credible allegations of sexual abuse come out after he died. If you look at old film and video of Savile, you can see why he got away with it for so long. He seemed to give off this air of avuncular eccentricity. He may have come across as this slightly odd guy but also that he was pretty harmless. Not only that, but his charitable work and powerful friends made it quite difficult for his victims to come out. He wore a mask of this eccentric but harmless person in public, and that made it difficult for a lot of people to believe the rumors that was swirling around during Saville's lifetime.

That might be the case here. Nobody in Japan wanted to believe that this guy could be responsible for doing these awful acts. He was one of Japan's biggest celebrities who also ran his own talent agency. If you wanted entry into the Japanese entertainment industry, someone like him could be very helpful. It's no wonder this happened. Like Savile,Kitagawa was able to put his victims at ease and his celebrity and power in the entertainment industry made sure that these accusations were never made public.

Sadly the new boss may not be much better. He did not do a good job of convincing me he isn’t guilty. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-66748236.amp

I want to add something to whatever you just linked. I Just got something from Variety via their newsletter this morning (I subscribed to Variety's newsletter email): Disgraced Japanese Talent Agency Johnny and Associates to Forgo Fees, Set Sexual Abuse Compensation Structure (EXCLUSIVE)

I'll quote selected part of the Variety article:

Patrick Frater of Variety wrote:
In a statement posted on Wednesday to its corporate website, Johnny and Associates said: “For the next year, all performance fees for advertisements and program appearances will be paid to the talent themselves, and we will not receive compensation as an entertainment production company.” While not specifically stated, that year is understood to start from the beginning of October.

Johnny’s said that further measures will be announced later this month. But, it has already set up a victim relief committee, to be operated by three former judges; a compensation application system; and appointed a chief compliance office to implement basic human rights policies within the company.

McDonald’s Japan, automaker Nissan and beer giant Kirin have said that they were dissociating themselves from Johnny’s, Japanese media reported Wednesday. “No form of human rights violation is tolerable,” McDonald’s Japan told media.

The Japan Times newspaper reports that drinks maker Suntory, insurance giant Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire, Japan Airlines and Asahi have all said that they will no longer use Johnny and Associates talent in their commercials.

The paper quoted a Suntory spokesman as saying: “Our company strongly urges Johnny’s to outline specific plans for reparation to the victims as well as prevention measures including strengthening of the agency’s governance.”

So yeah, the ripple effect of the scandal has already begun. Now the question and I asked: Will we see a #Metoo-styled movement in Japan?

Careers are now just completely gone as the brands are pulling out in droves, they might want to add the talent to the compensation package as the chances they'll be able to move into another agency is near 0.
