Perhaps they wanted to have more popular voice actors, but since Usagi is the protagonist and Kotono's voice is so iconic for Japanese fans they decided that she would be the only one returning. Luckily in the Latin American version Usagi, Ami, Rei, Minako, Mamoru, Chibiusa, Artemis, Michiru, Diana, Tiger's Eye, Hawk's Eye and Palla-Palla kept their original voices from the 90s dub. Also, Nehellenia is voiced by Luna's original voice actress in place of her sister, she was going to voice Luna in Crystal but couldn't do it due to health issues. Makoto has a different voice because her original voice actress, Araceli de Leon, passed away in the late 90s, some people thought her daughter would take her role but she instead voices Cere-Cere. |

I really liked the 3rd season's art and animation style. Everything was very "bouncy and "lively". I did like the designs in this version too but I felt a lot of the animation was very stiff. I would expect a bit more with it being a movie rather than a TV series. Eternal is still 1000% better than the first two seasons. UGH....those still make me angry thinking about them to this day. |

I thought it was quite good, although it felt very rushed.

Not to mention Aya Hisakawa actually was recording for Saint Seiya: Soul of Gold (which had most of the Gold Saints' VA back) which came out in early 2015, and she could still do Kero-chan in Clear Card, so would it have been so damn difficult to call her, let her know about Crystal and ask if she would want to reprise her role as Ami/Mercury, along with the other seiyuu who are still active (although I can understand Chiyoko Kawashima not returning since she retired 20 years ago)? |

The movies are decent, as well as the voice acting, but the translation choices in all the Western-languages using the English dub by proxy are terrible, due to inclusion of honorifics and weeaboo translator crap.

I'm going to repost what I put here.
(And to note, this move affected all languages, not just English. I heard the French fans are the most angry over it too.) The fact that Eternal's English dub was written by the same writer as the Viz dub of Crystal should be proof enough that there was some meddling involved because she did a much better job for those three seasons and they had none of those honorifics. |

Watched this over the course of two days and I really enjoyed it. It's definitely the best Crystal has ever been. I was pleasantly surprised by how well-animated everything was given how awful the first two arcs were. Season 2, the third arc, was a massive improvement and had a few really good pieces of animation, but still has some problems with the animation. I guess this is what it looks like when Toei finally gives Sailor Moon the time and budget that it deserves. Crystal was actually my introduction into the franchise as I didn't watch the original 90s versions until after each arc was finished in Crystal, so other than the animation I didn't think there was a massive difference in quality with regards to the story, but the 90s version did have much better characterization for the Inner Guardians. After watching the movies I can definitely see why some manga fans say this is their favorite arc. Not only do the Inner Guardians finally get enough of a focus from the plot, but Rei especially finally started to come alive as a character as before now she didn't have much in the way of a personality other than being the mature one of the group.
I haven't seen Super S yet so I can't compare the two like I can with the other arcs, but I pretty much have no major problems with these movies The first movie wasn't quite as strong as the second, but I still really enjoyed it. It did feel really episodic, but there was enough of a throughline that it works as a movie. But the second movie really was good all the way through. I don't have many complaints about it. Unlike the other arcs, there wasn't any place where the story dragged. The first half like I said before did feel a bit too episodic and also felt like it was moving a bit too fast at times, but those problems disappear with the second movie. Honestly, the climax of the second arc was absolutely gorgeous to look at, and I really liked the insert song they played during it. Hopefully, once they adapt the final arc they'll keep up the animation quality. |

I went through the credits and was disappointed that Ikuko Itoh was not credited for the bank attacks of the Inner Senshi. Slapping a leaf crown on Jupiter and adding sparkles does not change the fact that Itoh designed the original sequences in SuperS and the ones in the movie were more or less regurgitations of those sequences, just with new sparkles because yay CG.
Animation-wise, while this was a small step up from Season 3 Crystal, there was still a lot of clunkliness, particularly with Sailor Moon's classic intro. There was nothing in either movie that, from an animation standpoint, was visually impressive. Plot-wise, I felt there were a lot of gaps. I agree with the author about Helios. That relationship felt incredibly weak to me. The whole "I like you because I think you're *that* princess" was just meh to me. I felt their bond in the original series was a lot stronger. I felt like so much of this movie hinged on showing fans characters that never had any screen time and aspects of the manga that they liked instead of focusing more on actual substance. I watched it in Japanese with subtitles. I'm used to Kotono Mitsuishi's voice. I've met her in person so for me, she will always be Usagi. But yes, if you're not used to it, it can be very jarring. This was an ok thing to watch on Netflix on a Friday night with chocolate and prosecco in hand. I laughed harder than I really should have at Chibiusa mentioning that Helios made her tingle inside (don't know if that was poorly translated or if that's featured in the dub but yeah, it's there). Kept wondering if Chibiusa was gonna slap that purity ring on her finger. |

Rewatching the movies subbed and I must say, the first one is a lot more enjoyable when you watch it in chunks. Also, I LOVE Taishi Murata as Artemis. So much better than Crystal's Yohei Obayashi, who made Artemis sound like a middle aged man.
Hisakawa is one of the seiyuus I'm most sad didn't reprise. Not only is she still going strong, but her replacement is the weakest among the Inners, IMO. The only two Soldier seiyuu who are retired are Tomizawa (Mars) and Kawashima. (Pluto) And Michie Tomizawa has come out of retirement for reprisals before, so it's possible she would have come back if Toei had bothered to asked.
That's a problem unique to Crystal. Manga Rei is a man-hating, opinionated, spoiled girl who chastises Usagi (and occasionally Minako) quite a bit. Yet Crystal's first season scrubbed all of this away, thinking her being an ojou-sama was the most interesting aspect of her character. Not only is it bland, but it makes it hard to see why she's the incarnation of fire when it's readily apparent in the manga. |

Yeah, whilst Hisako Kanemoto is a good actress, she was miscast as Ami/Mercury, and I felt she sounded too young, and at times her performance felt a bit bland. And yeah, Crystal Rei/Mars... they could have done a much better job trying to capture her manga character without totally depriving her of a personality (Crystal Rei/Mars doesn't have one in my eyes). |

Just like Crystal, one of the most mind-numbingly awful, overrated, and shallow excuses for a cash-grab I've ever seen...
No effort was being made whatsoever beyond trying to milk as much nostalgia for the 90s as they could. The Inner Senshi are essentially condemned to remain Usagi's glorified accessories forever. Despite the fact they've been completely redundant ever since their debuts. Seeing as the Outers can do everything they can but better anyway. Definitely won't be wasting my time with Cosmos. |
