It's really hard to accept that someone who has been consuming anime for the last decade or longer could seriously make such an assumption. My friend, we are living in the absolute pinnacle age of incest-adjacent shows. Just 6 months before you joined ANN, we had the much talked about Sword Art Online Alfheim where Kirito's sister can't stop wanting to bang him. A month after ANN, we had the much talked about and infamous Oreimo. I can't think of a single show since where a sister didn't try to be sexually attractive to her brother or more except Full Dive and Fire Hunter. There may be one or two others, granted. So congrats, you might just have the one unsullied psyche in the fandom. If only real anime were so benign... Wink

Ok, The Legendary Hero is Dead...so is this show. Couldn't get past the 10 minute mark, just offensive.
AMB2 seems just as good as the first two seasons.

Lol, that’s definitely on me and recency bias more than anything else. The last thing I saw with a brother complex was Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny-Senpai, and in general romance anime tends to not interest me, so Oreimo was always more like this aberration that worked in spite of the incest theme rather than because of it rather than a genuine trend in my mind (especially since the real-life fans I did engage with were the ones who *didn’t* root for the incest angle). But I think it’s also because isekais feel like they have so much potential to offer on a family dynamic, and yet it typically gets squandered on fanservice—my expectations were similarly dashed with the mom isekai, which turned out to be MILF bait. I guess when I expect isekai to try and stand out from the crowd I’m expecting narrative twists and not variations on what kind of fanservice you’re getting.

My god, it's 2023 and we're still letting Seo Kouji make harem anime, huh? Will wonders never cease?

Some of Kouji's early output was relatively wholesome stuff that didn't sell. I say relatively because fanservice was either practically required or not seen as a big deal back then and today the industry is way tamer. He also tried his hand at less blatantly sketchy fare a few times after hitting it big and getting name recognition but still: no luck. So he has to keep going back to what works to stay in the industry I guess.

As for why his works keeps getting anime adaptations: fantasies aimed at teen and preteen boys sell, and Kouji is an old reliable at delivering them, even if he really would rather be doing something else. As with isekai, the anime industry can't turn that reliable revenue down right now. A lot of the more respectable stuff that made big money in times past are either dead or nowhere near as big as they once were. Mecha and shonen. Magical girl and romance shoujo. Police. Space. Sports. Cyberpunk. Military. Battle/fighting and martial arts. Even some newer genres like visual novel adaptations: dead. Despite what some claim it isn't for lack of trying. There have been tons of attempts to innovate. It is just that nothing new has consistently caught on in awhile, especially not in the sort of big numbers that the industry needs, which is genre that can generate multiple hits - big and small - at multiple studios each year for several years. Until that happens the industry is going to continue to crank out harems, isekai and isekai harems because the alternative is just going bankrupt.

I wonder if in Summoned to Another World for a Second Time it'll turn out his big bad rival got reincarnated with him as his childhood friend/ lady love interest, or if I'm giving a generic isekai show too much credit thinking it might have an actual interesting idea?

There's something oddly lifeless about the faces in A Galaxy Next Door. It's unsettling enough that I can't get into an anime that I'd probably love otherwise. Too bad.

Skip and Loafer's first episode was pretty much perfect and everything I could've hoped for. Very Happy

Yay! Very Happy I'm glad I'm not the only one who cares about things like that! It was really bugging me that I wrote the wrong breed. Laughing

(I've only ever had two purebred cats, a snowshoe and a Maine Coon Cat, and both were rescues/strays.)

I appreciate your reviews and attention to detail. And yay to rescues!

I take it based on the preview reviews James will be doing a joke review of KamiKatsu then. Still dear god that show has the sense of wrongness of a cult incorporated into the writing of the show. The very essence of its writing felt perverted away from sensible design choices.

Skip and Loafer is the show I didn't expect to follow, but might still run with it. I have an interest in urban planning and this show is bit about that, and the lead is also voiced by Tomoyo Kurosawa, so all the more reason to roll with it.

G-Witch is still great as ever. And predictably spoiler[the two girls with those Gundams have shown up in the school, and an all-out war against Earth in the name of "war on terror" is brewing]. Hopefully we'll get more answers this season and we'll get 2 more cours as how is it traditional with a Gundam TV series.

I don't get magical destroyer, it feel like a show that was designed by a bunch of people each in their own corner and then they merged every idea together with 0 care about making sure it all formed into a cohesive whole.

Otaku are ban but rise together to defend their passion as a bunch of weirdo is a good idea. But for it to work you need a strong contrast between the otaku and the bad guy. But here they whiff completely, the bad guy are even more cartoonish than the otaku, it just feel like weirdo A fighting weirdo B. You needed them to be super serious military/politician/religious leader.

But on top of that, the otaku are completely pointless! Everything just comes down to the magical girl, all the otaku are just useless peon. You start with a predator-like scene of all the otaku getting psyched up for a suicide mission, except they're all useless. The only one that matter is the magical girl. At the end, the otaku will win, not because of their unique/otakuesqu characteristic, they'll win because their side has magic and the other side doesn't (or the other side has weaker magic).

Then you have the main character, who spend most of the episode as a boring mope, but then he finally get his spirit back! Now he'll be useful and rally the troops! Oh wait, no, he's also completely useless, cause the only thing that matter is the magical girl and why do we even care about everyone else, they should have just stayed home. In the end of the episode my only feeling for the main character is disappointment that he even exist.

This is like a someone making a meal, running to their kitchen and throwing every ingredients they have into one meal thinking that'll make the best thing ever. The energy, concept and production value are all there to make a a good show, but the person mixing everything seems clueless about their job.

the reisakied preview reminds me how cool get naked is and how sad it is is that it is not popular enough to even have a manga adaptation.
tldr the mc geta reisakied by death, but instead of using the redeath skill every few days like rezero it has only been used twice ,in the fight against the maou. it also explores the different relationships, first loop he is a weak shounen prot that sacrifices a lot, including his friends, second loop he is an op mc who even achieves higher goals, like stopping the sacrifices of his friends. the meat is in the third loop where the prot is a girl now and she gets to see a VERY different side of the world, starting from being excluded from her role as a hero.
it's what sexiled would have been if it was not full of cartoonish content.

Just watched the Demon Slayer. While it's nice seeing the cast back, the story ridiculously dark out of nowhere. Tanjiro was in a coma for two months! Does that mean that happy ending from the previous season was fake and they went through the Phantom Pain premise? And he recovers because... well. I wanted to see more of Tanjiro's relationship with Inosuke and Nezuko especially the latter since she was his sister but it seems they are like Ichigo's friends and the Soul Society capta---I mean Pillars are more important for Tanjiro's character. Honestly looking forward to this season but it really feels this show barely uses Nezuko who was really outstanding back in season 1 and for five minutes in season 2.

Demon Slayer didn't dissapoint me, i really loved everything about it. Those first 15 minutes (Muzan-house) had an almost Escher-esque sorta vibe, i think it was a great introduction to the new season.

This season, with Hell's Paradise, Heavenly Delusion, Demon Slayer and Oshi no Ko, is really packed with big titles.

Concerning World Dai Star:

Wow, how did I not pick up on that the first time around? On a second view, that now seems obvious, as a bunch of scenes that I was scratching my head over make perfect sense with that figured in. That doesn't explain why that character is dressed up as one of the troupe performers in the opener-to-be, however.

Glad to know I'm not the only one cringing at the AMV tier over-editing in that Demon Slayer episode. Methinks Ufotable is getting a wee bit high on the smell of their own farts.
