Curious--I wonder why they no longer allow signups/payment via web and Paypal, and only on mobile? I would've thought they'd save money--I don't know about Google, but doesn't Apple take like a 30% cut of any purchases made via iOS apps?

Maybe the increase is to compensate Apple's cut? Maybe Google's too?

EDIT: I've misunderstood thinking payments for SJ can no longer be done through Viz's website. However, I would reckon you can still subscribe using PayPal through the app store.

Original message:
I read Viz's manga on their website as some titles are only readable there. Mature manga are not available on any of Viz's app like SJ or Viz Manga ( I question the difference of those two apps.) Hearing all of this sounds like I need to get those apps on my smartphone in order to subscribe, but is that going to be the only way or something? Can't subscribe through my PC? So many questions.

Doesn't it just say Paypal to be excluded? And not web payments in general?

PayPal takes a big cut out of each transaction. More than what a credit card company does.

Would be cool if they added stuff Shonen Sunday and shojo. EDIT - This would obviously mean renaming the app

I knew there would be an eventual price increase. Still not bad for what you get. Dunno how I feel about the 100 chapters a day thing as I find it impossible to read 100 chapters in one day but other people feel different about it?

Then it wouldn't be the Shonen Jump app anymore, it would probably need to be called something else like "The Viz Media app" or something.

For the latter, they do have Hana Yori Dango.

It's probably significant that that's a Shueisha manga; if they wanted to distribute Shogakukan's stuff the same way, they'd probably have to have a separate app for it, maintaining the Jump label for the current one. Legal reasons, branding reasons, what-have-you.

And this was just after I unsubscribed from Rooster Teeth and Disney+. I know it's only one dollar, but still.

Only website payments through Paypal will be discontinued. That's what it says.

The option of adding your card and paying should still be there I reckon.

For HanaDan, it made sense since its sequel series, Hana Nochi Hare is being published by Jump+ and the Shonen Jump app handles Jump+ titles.

Also, at least going from what I have heard different content creators say, PayPal also has been known to do things like hold funds or remove account information without warning because it decided something seemed "suspicious" but also didn't tell them about it. Maybe it applies differently for individuals instead of a company, but PayPal has dealt with some issues by stating things along the lines of how it isn't a bank so it doesn't have to follow banking rules. I could see that being a problem. Although, it is probably more to do with fees. If the subscription is $3 a month, it's possible that they decided it wasn't worth it with those fees.

For the sheer amount of stuff you get access to, they could be charging a lot more, honestly. I'm grateful they're not using a model like Comikey where you're paying for batches of chapters of your choosing, so I have no issue with paying another dollar.

Same sentiments here i hate the other comic models and luckily for me $3 isn't a big deal.

I've actually hit the 100 chapter limit a few times before and it's not a big deal since it took me like 12 hours of continuous reading.

I'm actually surprised that the comment section isn't full of statements about sailing the seven seas or the like, as it typically is whenever a streaming service does anything, including raising prices. Is Manga that different of a model for subscriptions?
