I'm creating this post because I don't if there has been one for the 'Ali Project', but I need to get some info. behind some of their compositions.
I first came across them when I was exposed to the series 'Noir'. Since then I kind know their style by heart. I like them. But after listening to some of their compositions, I'm beginning to hear a common pattern in their music. I also realize that from many of the shows that they have composed for many of the tunes have "samplings" from various classical pieces. Especially, in the anime 'Avenger'. The show's ED theme 'Mirai no Eve' ('Eve of the Future') is very recognizable to a classical piece, I know I've heard it somewhere but I cannot identify it by name. The closest I can get in classic music is the 'Nutcracker'. If anyone wants to add to this feel free. Any info. is greatly appreciated. |

Thanks on that note.
But most of the songs listed I've either heard or am not familiar with. I'm not interested in what shows they have composed for. I'm interested in how their compositions use "sampling" from tunes that have already existed in the music world. Like for example, when you listen to either R&B, or RAP or any song you'll always find a "sampling" taken from an older song, written by someone else. Whether it's classical, pop, rock, R&B, rap, hip-hop, etc... Any song that you've ever heard will always have something that relates to a past inspiration. One example would be the theme to Big-O's soundtrack which is very similar to Queen's 'Flash Gordon' theme. Such tunes by the Ali Project like, Avenger's 'Mirai no Eve' or 'Kinjirareta Asobi' have notes in them that are samplings from other classical works. What I'm trying to find is the source. |

curently i am OBSESSED with ALIPRO. every songs are just too good to my taste. i believe they've been around for 20 years now. really long time ago and they still do best in what they do. love Mikiya's composition combining symphonic with tecno/rock/pop sounds. love Arika's twisted lyrics. i learned most of my japanese from her lyrics. fav song would always be Yuukyou Seishunka, Mirai no Eve, Ankoku Tengoku, Hizamazuite Ashi wo Oname and Jinsei Bimi Raisan
cant wait for the first live dvd to come out <3 too bad i cant go to Sakura-con this year to meet them |

I've also noticed that...
Jigoku no Kitsetsu is the first song that pops into my head when some one talks about the samplings from classical works. I don't quite remember the title of the song it has a resmblence to, but it's a very common pice. In fact, kids in my orchestra class keep playing it and it's driving me crazy because I don't know what it's called. I REALLY want to go to Sakura-con, but sadly, I am a minor with no income what-so-ever and my parents don't want to drive for fourteen hours to get up to Washington.... |

I'm familiar with a few ALI project songs that I've heard through anime (Rozen Maiden, Code Geass, Shigofumi), and most of them sound alike. The moment I hear the intro, I already know it's ALI Project. I didn't know they were sampling songs, because I'm not familiar with the songs they're sampling.
Maybe this pagewill help. It says something about the Avenger and Noir themes. |

Thanks a lot guys!
Wow it's been awhile since I last checked this post. Hahaha! And what a coincidence, I just finished listening to their song 'Ashura HiME' from the 'My-HiME' vocal collection [I just picked up a few weeks ago, it was time]. I have to admit they always know how to start an album off. You always know it's them. Hell, maybe one day I need to just break down and buy one of their albums. The only albums I have are what from shows I watched where they have at least 1 or 2 songs they composed for it. I still have pick up 'Rozen Maiden'. Especially 'Traumend'. What a "sick" piece. I'll check out that site. I'm curious to see it. Thanks jetz. I don't care if their stuff sounds the same sometimes. I'm not so demanding. I mean hey what are you gonna do? After all no one else is complaining... or are they? |

I LOVE ALI PROJECT...
not all sounds the same... hello, Peony Pink doesn't even sound so Ali Project... As for the sampling, I'll go for Jigoku no Kisetsu, I forgot the piece that was in the intro of the song but I am sure it is from a classical piece. |

Oh yeah, Ali Project's great! My favorite piece is of course Boukoku Kakusei Catharsis (.hack//RootsED).
And you're absolutely right, namelissis. They don't sound the same. Actually, Ali Project is capable of producing a large variety of music. |

Well, yeah, it doesn't. It's too cute... I actually love that song. They had a shift of style towards the end of the 90s, which would explain why Peony Pink ('97) sounds so cute, and Coppelia no Hitsugi ('01) sounds so dark and scary. Still, they're a fun band, just because they sound so distinctive. |

As the band themselves describe it, their music has gone "from white to many shades of grey to black." |

Absolutely correct. Evidences of this can be found in their photos as well as their music. The band has taken on a sort of Gothic image, and their newer songs have become edgier and darker.

maybe you think the songs of Ali Project sound the same because of their orchestral-like arrangement of music in their songs...
But seriously, their songs are pretty nice to the ears especially when you want to relax ... I don't know, but their music is kinda relaxing! |

Obviously, you haven't heard Catharsis, which makes you wanna dance, or at least head-bang while doing a devil's sign . |
