Loved this episode. Sumi got to shine with Kazuya, and just have a great time. I've already read the manga online, and can't wait for more Sumi.

In manga chapter 1, anime Season 1 Episode 1, Kazuya BUYS A FAKE GIRLFRIEND (Don't quibble about purchase v. lease v. rent v. hire v. contracting for services, etc), as bad as having physical impersonal "therapeutic" intimacy, she is an ESCORT, FEIGNING AFFECTION, in the age-old thespian/courtesan tradition of faking emotional intimacy for her customer, the story's "HERO"! Warning lights and Klaxon bells should have been going off for everyone who claims interest in romantic comedy: This is NOT romance! Payment for services, affection for hire, has never been, will never be, romance! Stop hoping for this doujinshi-ka to redeem this story. It cannot recover from it's initial, pecuniary, fatal flaw.

Probably one of Kazuya's better moments to play the loser and drink so freshly legal Chizuru with no experience didn't have to (though admittedly it seems like she can gulp her booze down fine).
Chizuru is practically Clark Kent with how well her disguise works, though everybody else being plastered probably helped.
I think that was honestly one of the better Kazuya and Chizuru moments. Sure, Kazuya is @#$%-faced drunk and puking, but Chizuru went out of her way to take care of him and support him with no judgements or condescension, knowing full well what he had done for her.

So I watched this with a friend Saturday, and she summed it up in a way I couldn’t. This show made her decide to start reading Domestic Girlfriend again.

Glad to see Sumi getting the love she deserves from everyone here ♥
Episode 17: She's such a pure soul; way too good for this show xD
Episode 18: Kazuya actually did well here. He vowed to protect Chizuru and he did exactly that. Even though he went through hell for it. Stupid..but noble. (it's funny how often those two go hand in hand)
I disagree with Nick though. Chizuru's really not "Worst Girl"; Kazuya is just the most irritating when he's around her and that's why her episodes can be less than fun to watch. It's really not her fault that he's a pathetic simp who can't stop talking about how much of a goddess she is. That's entirely Miyajima Reiji's fault there. When an episode (or chapter) focuses on Chizuru but Kazuya is barely in it? It's actually pretty good.
Ruka is still Worst Girl imho....though the actual "worst" thing about the series is Kazuya himself....or should I say 'Kazuya's way of thinking' because if you take his actions into account, he's really not that bad of a person. I'd love to imagine what the series would be like if you removed ALL of his inner horny dialogue about the girls. Why, I bet it would actually be a lot better!
That being said, I ALSO don't get why this loser can't just refuse to drink. Worried your "friends" will make fun of you? WHO CARES; THEY'RE DRUNK AND WON'T REMEMBER CRAP LATER. lol

....and you don't think a real relationship can develop from having a "fake one"? This is just Nisekoi with money involved and less good writing, bruh. xD Don't post dumb stuff like this.

I respect Kazuya's feelings for Chizuru but when he can't even friend his fake girlfriend while kind of stringing Ruka long while she takes so much pride in being his girlfriend and cries out of how much she loves him...maybe give her more of a chance?
Here's Mami! And with her character song to boot!
Ruka calling out Mami felt so satisfying, especially for how accurate she was.
Of course, now Mami realizes the entire plot and web of lies everyone has strung together and also seems to be planning to make it collapse in on itself out of spite.

Not even watching this season. I just like to spectate from a distance as everyone hates on it. It's far more entertaining than actually watching it. But I'm pretty sure you're supposed to hate Kazuya and enjoy his suffering. He possibly didn't deserve Mami in the pre-S1 setup, but he certainly does now.

I don't see how Ruka is worse than Mami considering that Mami broke up with Kazuya, blocked him from following her on social media, which would have been fine if it stopped at that. Instead, when she sees him at a social gathering with what she believes to be Kazuya's new girlfriend, starts complaining about him in front of her almost as if she's attempting to get Chizuru to do the same. I could certainly understand if Mami was trying to warn Chizuru about Kazuya if he was abusive instead of just trying to make him look bad. After that, most of Mami's behavior for the rest of the series was that of a jealous ex-girlfriend that got unceremoniously dumped by her boyfriend. Mami should have just moved on with her life and minded her own business instead of worrying about whatever Kazuya is doing like she owns him.

Ruka is actually the best girl purely because she is the only girl who has some kind of chemistry with Kazuya. Their interactions and conversations actually flow decently well. Both of them keep being a massive pain in the ass to their romantic interest and refuse to take no for an answer. They are practically like soulmates. Ruka's annoying clingy ass is all Kazuya deserves. And Ruka keeps causing problems to Kazuya with her big mouth which leads to the few mildly entertaining story beats this anime has. Watching Kazuya and Chizuru interact is about as interesting as watching the grass grow.
Mami so far just seems like some kind of sadistic two-faced sociopath.

A Detective Mami spin off sounds lovely. The girl deserves her a better series, preferably a yuri one, cause she sends all the signals

Reviewer: "Detective Mami is fun to watch"
YEAH, SHE IS. Lol her seiyuu makes her even better from the way she goes from sounding all cutesy to badass whom not even thirsty nanpa want to mess with. I absolutely love how intimidating this character is...with even just one look or one word. She scares the pants off everyone she meets eyes with. It's great.

Cam0, you're mixing up Ruka with Sumi, I think.

They're both evil....but Mami's evil is the fun type of evil....whereas Ruka's obnoxious "spoiled brat" type of evil just makes me want to yeet her into outer space (much like Chibi-Usa, Haru Onodera, and/or every other unpleasant, immature character in anime you come across who only exists to be annoying and make the MC's life hellish).
Ruka actually does have more compassion than Mami....but Mami's way more enjoyable on screen, imho.

Eh, Sumi barely exists in the story. So far she is easily the most disposable of all the main girls. And she'd have just as much chemistry with one of Kazuya male buddies as she'd have with Kazuya because she is just a perfect little angelic submissive waifu that the audience can fawn over.

D-don't you badmouth Best Girl like that. >B( I'm gonna get mad.
See, the reason I like Sumi so much is because unlike many shy girls of anime, she is only shy with verbal words. When she wants someone to notice something, she makes sure it happens. Not only that but she recognizes that she has an issue with communication and is doing her best to improve herself. Better yet, this was her own decision that wasn't even based on liking a man. She decided this for herself before even meeting Kazuya!
This type of resolution and determination is VERY rare among The Shrinking Violet Character trope.
Sumi-chan is a horse of a different color. Please continue to watch her carefully before calling her "submissive" because she'd definitely not.

Nothing more meta for an anime than two college students cosplaying as high schoolers and trying to relive their youth (well, at least Kazuya was). Chizuru just liked the idea that she can still pass as a schoolgirl for acting purposes .
Still, Chizuru was...very different in this date. Like she was genuine, she wasn't in girlfriend mode, and yet she wasn't sniping or judging Kazuya or seemed really annoyed to be with him. She seemed to be actively trying to enjoy the date and spend time with him. And all the blushing...especially that hug! Her feelings have never seemed more obvious now. She even apologized for slapping him.
(Meanwhile Kazuya is pathetically simping over her in a school uniform, but I guess progress isn't perfection).
Looks like Sumi is shopping for a birthday gift for Kazuya.
I love Ruka calling out Chizuru for stealing her school uniform gimmick in the next episode preview.
