Episode 2
Was a little surprised that I had to be the one to create this topic, since the first episode had been such a highlight of the season for me. I think that the general consensus of other people is that this show has known how to brilliantly utilise aspects of "anime bullshit", to make something that sounds super boring (a golf anime) actually pretty entertaining. With the idea that I think a lot of people afraid that it can't keep it up. It starts with Eve being a pretty much uncharacteristically cool character, almost like a hitman of the golfing world, existing in the shadows. That she is trying to get money to protect her found family, who are a group of undocumented immigrants. And then you get into it playing into the even sillier aspects, that kind of work as so uncool that they become cool again, like lily apparently really being into model robots. Or that the underground lady that is meant to be some criminal, has a couple of large slow turtles, that play off like she is meant to be some dangerous criminal. It looks like Eve has started to dress 'proper', getting a way into the tournament with her new rival, which kind of looks like it would be a shame if she can't keep her rough edge. Hopefully it can keep some edge. |

Now that you point it out, I am surprised you had to make this as well. Make one for Deaimon: Recipe for Happiness as well since that's another one I look forward to and don't find a thread for.
I was surprised to see how this ends with her perhaps running with the pros or at least in their contests to meet her rival/friend again. Honestly, I really can't imagine a show with that strong an opening changing it's aesthetics so much that is becomes a slog like real golf. I am so happy I went into everything blind this year, because this one won me over from how much I wasn't looking forward to watching it (especially after a recent and utterly boring and forgettable girls golf short anime) to how much I am not waiting to see where it will go. |

Episode 7
That's right, in this anime with underground golf that is a mainstay of the mafia, along with VR golf, we now have spoiler[cyborgs]. |

DP, with that pair of yuri goggles that I know you always keep by your side, I'm shocked you haven't made any related comments given Eve's frequent "rainbow bullet" references.
I'm kind of crushing on Vipere because her wide eyes and tiny fangs plus whiff of evil yet also basically nice is a winning combo for me. |

Yuri goggles fine, but they are too keen, there is no drama there.
Yeah she is great, I like how extra she is, along with becoming a de facto ally to Eve. |

Episode 8
I guess I'm just a big softie at heart but I was kind of sad that Rose bit the bullet as they say. The penalty for losing in her world is definitely harsh. Since it happened offscreen, I guess I can pretend that maybe she was the one who actually fired on her would be attacker, but I rather doubt it. |

Seeing her assistant go off on Eve was worse Rose seeming to have an assassin role up in front of her. She kind of brought it on herself, like specifically manipulated the events to have the death game.
Now who will feeds the tortoises? |

Rose's somewhat embittered caddy, I would think. |

You and me both, I really loved Rose, she is the sort of woman I always fall for in anime, tough on the outside and still sorta tough on the inside as well, with a slight soft filling in between, and a mature sexy I will miss, at least she had a fitting send-off for her lifestyle. Now perhaps we'll be able to focus more on the young "golfers" and see them together again. This show is awesome every episode. I love golf. |

This show is definitely getting even more yuri as it goes along. Aoi is certainly interested in watching Eve swing and I ain't talking about her golfing technique, y'all. I'm not sure they can wrap up the Doubles Championship in the one remaining episode so I suspect we are in for some kind of "to be continued???" resolution. Which if I'm right is kinda weird given that I believe this is an original story as opposed to adaptation.

Episode 12
Looks like next week will be the finale. But also even more romantic tension between Eve and Aoi. Characters kept thinking that they are fighting and thus not getting along, but what they are doing is pretty much flirting. And all the normal girls reacting these flirtatious battle golfing girls. Also, this show has my number with the couple of masculine girls here. |

Episode 13 (season finale)
Alone you probably would not have guessed that this was a season finale, not really being much of a finale at all, and even having a preview for the next episode, which won't be until next year. But if I was going to take one note for this last episode, they really toned up the yuri, that it is pretty undeniable that someone be gay. Eve especially seem quite aware that Aoi is into her, so what kisses could mean. Amane actually seems something like afraid for Aoi's chastity, not letting the two players share a room. Probably not alone, Ichina even mentioned feeling a bit excited that Eve got into her bed, followed by disappointment that Eve is a really bad/violent sleeper. Man, I really enjoyed this show. I think the thought hit me a few weeks ago that it kind of reminds me of Skate the Infinity, the sort of taking a not so usual sport for an anime, and turning it into a ridiculous anime, along with its fair share of homoerotic themes in the best ways possible. Maybe a difference is Skate kind of seeped itself in subculture, while a lot of kind similar sort of Stuff that Birdie brought is not usually a fit for golf culture. But Eve's loudness is just so fun, and unlike what usually expect from anime. I don't feel really confident at calling this a full experience yet, we are in the middle of a story, with the closest to what would feel like a story to stop would have been when she left the previous country to come to Japan. Another thing, where was she supposed to be before. I think they might have implied that it was somewhere in Europe, but everything about it was very America. I was actually a little scared that it might fall apart when she went to Japan, because I thought that it would lose some of its spunk, but Eve continued to have enough to make up for it. Anyway, to rate so far, I give it a Very good (8/10), I would put it very high up this season, but if nothing else came out, I would not be super satisfied. I hope that what comes next will be good. |

Sports anime can be very hit or miss for me - it's definitely not my favourite genre. And within sports, golf isn't exactly a passion of mine. But even with all that, Birdie Wing captured my heart... or rather, Eve's bullets penetrated it... or something.
In any case, dug the show. I'm kind of sorry the mafia arc is over but even amid a more wholesome high school girl milieu, it's holding my attention. I'm looking forward to it going full on yuri hentai complete with tentacle porn (this is the kind of show that seems it could find a way to credibly have tentacles as a thing). Okay, that probably won't happen. Anyway, January isn't too long to wait for more. It'll be here before we know it. |
