That tag line all but confirms what we already knew. The comedy aspect of the series will soon be gone or at least be tone down in favour of straight up melodrama

Uh, no. There will be some more serious arcs in the future but the comedy never goes away in the series.

The manga shows that it is possible for a love comedy to continue after the confession.

I continue to enjoy Kaguya but A strong argument can be made that its quality peaked with this arc. Kyoto arc was pretty good, but more of than a few of them were meh[/spoiler]

The next ep will be peak Love is War; although there are good bits in the rest of the manga, on the whole, it's not as good as this arc.
I would prefer a mic drop, and walk away, as far as the anime is concerned.

Echoing the people above. Chapter 136 is the absolute peak. Of the whole manga medium. Even though the rest of the manga isn't bad by normal standards, it is still bad by Kaguya sama standards. I hope they stop at the peak so that we don't need to ride downhill.

I'm not sure how much they'll adapt to in the hour-long finale (which is awesome by the way) but I hope they close this season out strong.

"Goodbye love-comedy" well, can we take that statement as this being the end of the line for the anime adaptation? It wouldn't surprise me. Though I enjoyed the rest of the manga as well and think that some aspects of what's coming afterwards are really important for what the story wants to say, not only for the titular couple but also for the rest of the cast.

people for real downplaying how amazing the writing in some later arcs of Kaguya are. Like I feel like we were reading a different manga.

People saying this was the peak of the Kaguya manga, I couldn't disagree more.
That would be the next arc.
And I certainly hope this isn't the last season they adopt, especially because this 'confession' is a giant lie.
