Out of sheer boredom and desire to try to get back into anime, I decided to watch a show that caught my eye. Its name is Conception and I believe it to be the greatest masterpiece to come out of 2018. Judging from the first episode, it seems it may be mostly an advertisement for a game but I think the people at Wikipedia got it all wrong. This must be the work of former Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe, attempting to improve the declining birth rate of Japan by implanting not-so-subliminal messages about copulation. As you can guess, this isekai premise revolves around an MC who must spread his seeds into 12 women to save the world. What an absolutely beautiful allegory about the duties of both men and women to sustain the world population! Shinzo Abe has instilled in me a responsibility I did not know I had until I first watched this. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to finish my duties.

I don't normally do episode reviews of any show, but in this case,I had to make an exception for this one. It was a two part episode of "Lupin III:Part 6." This one was set in 1930's Tokyo. Lupin somehow traveled back there and he has to grab an unusual clock in order to get back home. Along the way,he sees some familiar faces along the way alongside what seems to be a Japanese Lara Croft who befriends the clock's keeper while they're in Japan.
To be honest,I was ready to dump on this episode. For me,the first part felt like it was going to be yet another whitewash of what was really going on back then as anime sometimes does. Although it didn't do that in the second part,I think I see why there'd be people who'd be a lot harder on these episodes than others, especially if you have any idea of the history back then.

I'm not going to spoil the episodes for anyone who hasn't seen them. It's just this, there are some parts of these episodes that are going to leave a bit of a bad taste in the mouth for certain people. I'm kinda in the middle here. This two-parter ain't too bad but there are some things that not a lot of people, including me,are going to like very much. It's not entirely the episode's fault but for people like us,we can't help it. The whole thing comes across as a little iffy but if you want to watch it,it's not too bad if you want to know.

I was very upset to see that my blu-ray of Magic Knight Rayearth lacks Sandy Fox's covers of the OPs and EDs. Frankly, they were the reason that I bought the set. I miss dubbed songs and this was a way to take me back to my childhood. Ah well. At least my El-Hazard blu-rays still have them.

Been watching a number of shows, but have only stuck with 1:

Dropped:
By the Grace of the Gods-I liked the premise, but watching it felt tedious especially the heavy focus on the slimes.
Reincarnated As A Fantasy Knockout-A lot comedy rely on 1 joke, but this series punchline got annoying. It tried adding other jokes later, but frankly I didn't like any of the characters except Jinguji (A+ design and voice) and the Kirito copy.
Convenience Store Boyfriends-Apparently I tried watching this before but had no memory of doing so. I stuck with this series longer than I should have. Characters were blah and animation was bad most of the time. However, the OST was surprisingly good.

As for the show I actually stuck with?
Konosuba-I've been meaning to watch this for a while and what with a 3rd season plus a spinoff show coming I decided to finally try it. I just started season 2 and I'm enjoying it more than I thought I would. The comedy can be hit or miss, but I enjoy the character interactions. I've been watching the dub and IT'S GREAT!!! Even if you're not a dub fan, watch episodes 4-6 of season 1 to experience Patrick Seitz as Verdia. It's glorious how hammy it is.

I finally got around to watching Mawaru Penguindrum. It'd be sitting on my shelf for years.

WHAT A RIDE!! Shocked

CONGRATS, IKUHARA. I FINALLY LIKED SOMETHING YOU MADE.
*clap*
Hahaha.

I actually cared about the cast this time. Because guess what, they were LIKABLE! Say what!? Yes, I liked all three main characters! And a half. Because I definitely didn't like Ringo in the first half of the show. But she got good development! I liked her by the end.

Don't get me wrong; this show is incredibly messed up, controversial, and above all, bizarre (like....'....what were you even smoking?')-bizarre but....yeah, I absolutely loved it.

Penguindrum is not for everyone and you WILL feel uncomfortable...unless it takes a lot to disturb you. I never got to the point where I had to shut it off...but I think some people will....and I wouldn't blame you for it because yeahhhhhh.

But if you have a strong nerve and can handle some taboo subjects in fiction, I say try it!

Add a bonus if you like penguins. These penguins were so funny and random...they would certainly put Pen-Pen to shame. Laughing They were so fun to watch; they are always doing something goofy in the background while characters chat and that's one of my favorite tropes.

As I expressed before; that is offensive Sandy's version was superior to even the original songs, imho. Sad And for a dubbed song? That's very impressive.

Misfit of Demon Academy

Occasionally I'll watch some of those silly Youtube clip collections "Funny Tsundere girls"..."You messed with the wrong guy"... etc. etc....
and kept seeing the same clips from this show. Amazing how every clip I've seen used are from the first couple episode.

These OP Demon King or Isekai shows are like special edition Mt. Dew Flavors.
Nothing really special, but you can't help trying them and they go down really easy.

Out of the OP protagonist Light Novel anime I have some respect for The Misfit of Demon King Academy because it just goes all the way with its OP protagonist. It utterly devotes itself to its absurdly powerful main character. I mean Anos like kills a dude with his heartbeat, literally. Anos' line "Did you think..." and how the circumstances it's used in keep escalating and how it leads to some of the greatest lines ever spoken in anime is one of the fun things about the show.

I really respect that show for what it does and it also has awesome opening and ending themes, I just personally found the show only about decently enjoyable.

So the article about family-friendly anime got me looking up some stuff, and I just watched Penguin Highway. Loved it. It's a solid 2 hours long, but I never really felt like it dragged or anything. Rather, though after the first half hour it seemed like it had been over an hour, I don't mean that in a clock-watching way. I guess I kept worrying that it was going to suddenly kick into high gear to wrap it up in a hurry, and I didn't want it to, if that makes any sense. Even though I'm not sure I understood the mystery, I don't feel like I really needed to, since this was more coming of age than sci-fi or fantasy. The kid's fixation on boobs was kinda funny, too. Smile

I enjoyed it so much I looked up some of Studio Colorido's other short stuff and loved all the ones I found too. Hinata no Aoshigure is a crazy journey into a love-struck boy's imagination literally taking flight. Control Bear is about 4 minutes of toy-store isekai which I didn't entirely understand (spoiler[why do the bears want to take off their heads?]), but I liked the little visual cues that it wasn't all in her imagination. Shashinkan is a poignant wordless tale (~15 min) of a photographer documenting the lives of a family through the years from early 20th c onward, and his efforts to make one little girl smile. Really beautiful, both visually and emotionally. And Paulette's Chair is about 4 min of a little girl and the best wingchair ever. Very Happy

The last three are on YouTube, and the others you may have to sail the high seas for. I think they're all worth the time though.

Finished Ghost in the Shell SAC 2045. Couldn’t help myself, with this particular universe. This half was… better I suppose. Some fairly interesting ideas, cool action, gripping tension and (somewhat) more compelling drama. I did like the final episode, with some reservations about its lack of detail and explanation. I now buy that this series was written and directed by Kenji Kamiyama; the man who gave us the classic Laughing Man and Individual Eleven arcs, as well as a disarmingly affective backstory for one of anime’s most enigmatic protagonists. Additionally, Mary Elizabeth McGlynn and the rest of the English cast continued to do their damnedest with this material.

But… it’s a Netflix show, through and through. Everything happens so fast, and ultimately so little really ends up being of consequence. So much more could have been done with this story, especially following the events of Solid State Society… Some antagonistic players are more cartoons than ever. And perhaps, at last, Ghost in the Shell the property has become such a meme as a concept that its echoes of itself (and for that matter, of venerable sf works) have ceased to be cute and clever.

I can’t say I’d recommend it to longtime fans, or that I’d be down for a 4th/5th “gig”.

I've been trying to catch up on My Hero Academia season 5. But I've also been watching the Chuunibyou series with a friend. What a perfect blend of moe, romance and comedy! This show is just delightful. I love the way it's directed and the timing is especially perfect. Laughing a lot. We're already on season 2. I hear the movie is great as well. And Kyoani's visuals are simply stunning. The show is from ten years ago and it's gorgeous.

DESUUUUUU!!!

I've been going through my old dvd singles collection and re-watching some old titles. Most still are as engaging and fun as they originally were. With some it's been so long I had forgotten some real key plot points and was pleasantly surprised upon re-watching the show to still be as engaged.

Currently the nostalgic re-watching involves 3 titles. I'm working through Kiddy Grade (the first season), My Hime', and Happy Lesson. I had forgotten that despite the typical romcom comedy hijinks Happy Lesson actually had several really endearing and sweet moments in it.

Once I'm done this batch I'm eyeing up Trinity Blood and Witch Hunter Robin. I still listen to the Witch Hunter Robin soundtrack to this day.
