Here's hoping the workers get what they deserve sooner rather than later.

Even if this results in higher prices and/or delays I'm more then willing to pay and wait. I wish them all the best and I hope I can buy a plushie of their mascots in the future.

I was inherently in support of the employees to begin with, but if you look at that site… yeah, they absolutely need this. It really paints a picture of a terrible situation there currently. So hopefully this works out for them.
It can only improve the quality of what the company releases as well, given some of the issues. |

This is prima facie evidence about how toxic the work environment is. Goddamn.

Dude. No healthcare AND no PTO? That’s like the bare minimum, WTF???

Hey, CWA was my union! Even though I was in no way, shape or form a communications worker. Sounds like they need a union.
I think 7 Seas is right in insisting on an election though. It will make things more unequivocal than just saying, "Yeah, sure, have a union." I hope. |

This is ridiculous. Wanting better pay, time off, and Healthcare is fine, but they're going way too far. Bonuses? Vendor gifts? An end to exclusivity on top of everything g? And they're basically dictating how every aspect of the company is run. Sounds like a hostile takeover. But people will support it blindly because unions are by default good for some reason.

That's what they're asking for. That doesn't mean they'll get it. That's how negotiations go - you ask for everything you could possibly want so you have something to compromise on to get the things you absolutely need.

That sounds vaguely threatening. |

I can't speak to vendor gifts because I don't work in this particular industry, but bonuses are normal in most professional, salaried positions at for-profit companies, and the kind of exclusivity contracts they're objecting to are even illegal in many places because of how horribly anti-worker they are. From the perspective of somebody who does professional software development (not for the entertainment industry, because of the notoriously bad working conditions), all of their demands look perfectly reasonable to me. I would not even consider working for a company that didn't offer most or all of those. If your workplace doesn't offer you all of that, maybe you need a union? |

Hey, here's a fun update on the situation; Seven Seas has hired Ogletree Deakins, the second-larged union-busting firm in the country: https://twitter.com/_UW7S/status/1531626411605127169
I feel like that puts to rest any thoughts of Seven Seas not voluntarily recognizing the union just because they want the election to be "official" or something like that; they are actively trying to stop it. |

The whole Seven Seas Union situation got its own article on Kotaku, and the above mentioned fact was mentioned there too; https://kotaku.com/seven-seas-entertainment-manga-union-united-workers-in-1848996599
32 of 41 eligible members have signed union cards, so it would take some pretty shady dealings to stop it... |

Jason DeAngelis, rot in hell scumbag. Union busting won't get you anywhere.

Wow, that's not a good look. Sounds like one of those cases where they're spending more to keep the union out than they would to just treat them fairly to begin with.
