If only every single person suffering the same condition could get a money raising too... It seems a little unfair that only the well-known, the famous and the mediatized can have access to this kind of help

I don't think that he is undeserving because he is an entertainer.
Obviously he is still human. I just want to also say that even "ordinary" people go viral and are greeted with kindness from strangers financially too, so I don't believe it's that much different. I'm glad that he's getting support either way. |

You're right that it's unfair, but that's not Kametz's fault, nor anyone else who's able to successfully get much-needed financial support like this. It's the fault of the United States' horrifically constructed and privatized healthcare system and insurance industry. |

Most people in America have health insurance and don't need to raise funds to pay medical expenses. The fault generally lies more in the fact anime voice-acting is a notoriously low paying job and most dubbing studios and companies aren't unionize or offer any benefits. |

Even then that insurance is tied to employment, doesn't always cover nearly enough, and when you get a disease like this it's pretty damn hard to continue working full time to keep that insurance. While unions can do their best to help band-aid the situation it still is a fault of a system that doesn't take care of its people. |

My mother-in-law had to keep working all through chemo even though she was horrifically sick because if she didn't, she'd lose the insurance that was funding it. It's a bad system. |

As the article explains, he has health insurance that’s covering his treatments. This money is to help cover other expenses. The US healthcare system is screwed up, but this isn’t a situation where the expenses are ones that would be covered under other countries’ public health systems.

Huh, would you look at that. Anyway, the point of this is that a passive aggressive attack on Kametz for successfully raising money he needs while fighting an extremely deadly and difficult medical condition is both unwarranted and pretty gross. Nodz is right that there's an injustice to how many people are forced to crowdfund for healthcare costs, and how they essentially have to virally market their own tragedy to get even that. But blaming Kametz, or anyone else with some small amount of celebrity that affords them a few thousand followers on twitter to help fundraising, is some real crabs-in-a-bucket behavior. |

In the other thread, I wondered if he qualified for SAG-AFTRA health coverage, given that not all of his roles are union. But, you know, I've been hospitalized for something serious before, I had good health coverage and I was still out some $5,000 in co-pays and everything for a week in Shock Trauma and two weeks in rehab plus meds, PT etc. But I had short-term disability insurance, too, so being off work wasn't a huge deal. Cancer is a whole different animal than my wreck, though, and, as the page points out, he isn't working during this time.
One of my favorite ballplayers, Trey Mancini, is a year and a half cancer-free after his own fight with colon cancer, though that was stage III. He took a season off for surgery and chemo. So I'm well aware of what a menace it is. All this to say, say no more, I'll throw him some cash. |

I don't know if it's fair to say most people have health insurance. In my case, I only have it because I get it through my employer because my employer covers it and it doesn't come out of my paycheck unless I want a higher tier of insurance, and I'd probably have turned it down if I'd had to pay for it out of my own paycheck because insurance is expensive. My husband, however, does NOT have insurance, so only half of this household is insured. And even IF you're insured, medical expenses are STILL outrageous. And notoriously, insurers will do their damnedest to make sure the care you actually need isn't covered by your insurance, that it's JUUUST out of network for you. Even with insurance, medical care is abysmal. My mother died of cancer while being insured. My dad was paying off her medical expenses for years after she died. The entire system is out of whack. |
