Quote: | I have a suspicion that this might be something of a litmus test – depending on response to Witch on the Holy Night, more localizations of Type-Moon visual novels (like the aforementioned Tsukihime) might be in the cards. |
That was one of my first thoughts too. Let's just hope it doesn't end up as, bad translation -> no one likes it -> "guess there's no market for more".

Eh? What's this about Touhou?
I'm casually plugged into the fandom (Following a bunch of artists and stuff) and have been a fan for about a decade importing fan music and playing new games, but haven't heard anything about any recent controversy.

I'm fully expecting Stella from the Versus XIII trailers to become a full fledged character in KH4. Just to exist as another icon of Nomura's indignation.
I was excited about the remake of GrimGrimoire but seeing as NISA would likely be handling the localization, I'm ranging from hesitant to disappointed. Their work was okay in the mid-life of the PS2 era, but their quality has been going downhill constantly over time to the extent where I just don't have much faith anymore.

Look on the bright side: there's (currently) less material between KH3 and KH4 to help us know what's going on than KH2 and KH3 had. In terms of cutscenes and additional reading alone, the total of it all isn't even as long as a single game's worth. The real trick, though, is to allow yourself time to process whatever new lore you've learned, instead of cramming it all into your head at once. That's how many of us KH fans have adapted to it: the breaks between games give us time to piece things together for ourselves.
I will say, though, I can't get enough of the fact the future of Kingdom Hearts was introduced through a fake "Versus XIII-esque" video game commercial in the Toy Story world. A gag that works as an homage to both Toy Story 2's intro and Final Fantasy's biggest what-might-have-been, and turns out to be pivotal to the story's direction, is the exact type of bonkers magic that drew me into this wonderful madness.

I used to be a big fan of KH, which was pretty hard considering the only PlayStation I've ever owned is the PSP. So I had to borrow and play at other people's houses. But I'm not gonna lie... I kinda gave up on trying to put anything together halfway through Birth by Sleep. I haven't played many of them since then, and still haven't gotten to KH3 yet. But I'm glad it's chugging along, even though I have no idea what's going on anymore.
Man, I really want to get cracking on 13 Sentinels though. Here's hoping I can get some time to play it within the month.

Considering IV seems like a new starting point, I wonder if IV might be easier to understand similar to the prequel Birth by Sleep as if it were... Simple and Clean?

Since we get plenty of Disney Product™ through real life already, my way out-there wish would be to see KH4 reclaim the franchise's connection to Final Fantasy. We've gone from Sora sparring with Cloud at the Coliseum and getting guidance from Yuffie and Squall Leon in Traverse Town to… basically no acknowledgement that Final Fantasy was ever a part of KH. It'd be fun to see Square turn that around, and maybe give their last decade of FF a little love.

What? BBS had Zack. X series has FF characters as Medals. KH3 showed the statues of Cloud and Auron and in Twilight Town the FF characters living there such as Seifer were mentioned to have gone away for a while. Re Mind (Limitcut) had Leon and co. return. Also, Moogles are in every KH game. Just because your own desires were not being satisfied doesn't mean you make incorrect statements.

Was Strider 2 an actual arcade game? As in.... would this be the same game as I once bought on the PS1? (That also came with a disc that had the original Strider on it.)
I'm hoping for Black Tiger myself. That one was missing from the first package.

Yes it was. I can confirm because I played it at a barcade a few years back.

G-Mode just got Megami Tensei Gaiden: Shinyaku Last Bible a lost feature phone game and are porting it to Switch, and it's a 2007 game as well, which means later games from the mid 2000's like Front Mission 2089 I-II can be ported to Switch.

Gotta be honest, I'd be perfectly happy if KH was allowed to die. Would never happen of course, but I found 3 to be so incredibly disappointing that I'm just washing my hands of the series at this point.

That Touhou game looks cool, although I'm wondering about the price, since its official site doesn't list anything yet.
Mahoyo news is exciting, although my first playthrough will definitely still be in Japanese.
Can't bring myself to care about KH4, since I preordered 3 and still haven't finished it. (To be fair, that was less the plot and more the shitty theme-park-ride attacks constantly interrupting the otherwise fun combat.)

Critical Mode did away with the theme park stuff. For other difficulties, they can be turned off with the PRO Codes in the DLC, though that requires starting a new file.
