I'm enjoying this second season more than I thought. Probably a bit less funny and memorabile than the first one, but still good in its slice-of-life moments and in the occasional flashbacks that reveal interesting facts about Tohru and all the other dragons.

I think this is generally how I feel about the show, but I think the shows visual humor, depending on the subject matter is plenty strong enough to get laugh out of me (that one scene in season one where Tohru keeps tripping Kobayashi's boss comes to mind.) Which is mostly the strength of kyoanis work because I can't really imagine myself enjoying the series quite as much as a manga. From that and how the visuals help accentuate those ideas talked about it's a solid piece of TV anime even if I can barely talk about how it may be as an adaptation.

I think it's totally fair to not like the series because it does have a handful of elements in there(Shouta's whole dynamic with his dragon, the framing of Kanna and her friend, Illulu's character design)that I personally feel it dosen't need at all and just alienates people, but it can get annoying to simply say I like the show just because it comes with the risk of people thinking I endorse those worser aspects, helped none by a internet culture full of people that'll use those things in a cheap attempt to get a rise out of people like the dumb toddlers they are.

It's kind of a mess in that sense but that's also a little facet of why I like it or at least find it interesting.

I think the fact this show has a polarizing reception mainly in the West is a sign of new-age Twitter-like left-wing extremism and outrage culture finding more prominence with anime becoming more commercially accessible and popular.

Now whether you think there's necessarily any point to be had in those ideals, Japan still doesn't care all that much (I’d say “not at all” if it weren’t for broadcasting times suggesting otherwise) about political norms in the kind of otaku humor you find in Miss Kobayashi like the topics of loli/shouta, gag boobs, and homoerotic subtexts.

There's way too many examples out there, but take a look at Monogatari. Japanese otaku find the series brand of humor hilarious and it sells like pancakes, but it is deeply reviled in the West.

I think Miss Kobayashi is definitely an anime for people that are deep into otaku culture and lingo. I don't think it has that much appeal despite the coveted wholesomeness under it. Kyoto Animation has made anime like Tamako Market that is wholesome and void of anything raunchy for all viewers, by comparison.

The wisdom is the reason why I love this show. I actually don’t like the fanservice. I was so worried when this was coming out because of the different director. I can sense the difference, but it’s still just as good in my opinion. Especially after episode 9, holy crap.

From what I've seen, Dragon Maid S2 has been even more popular then the first Season, not just because the Anime market has grown considerably in just 4 years, but most of the complaints from Certain groups have fallen on deaf ears.

Aka "Hehe, Dragon boobies go bouncy bouncy."

Just from what I've seen on Social Media.

The anime 9s an A+ adaptation to be sure, and I attribute that to KyoAni working their magic. Unfortunately the source material just isn't that great. Coolkyo isnt an especially gifted author, and you can always tell where his priorities are.

Do people actually have a problem with something about Elma’s character design or did you mean Ilulu?

So what if his priorities are boobs? Having read many of his manga I can assure you it's not even (entirely) true....

That's my experience as well. It seems a lot more popular and I see it talked about a lot more now than back when the first season came out. It had 4 years to build up an audience discovering it for the first time since then so more fans existed by the time season 2 debuted.

I think folks can absolutely dislike the Shouta/Lucoa and/or Kanna/Saikawa "gags" without it being any of the nonsense you're reaching for here. And you -are- reaching. Rolling Eyes

Article was pretty much spot on, however, and I enjoy the series for most of the same reasons Cipher listed. I was hesitant to even go into this season for a number of talked about reasons, but I'm glad I eventually did.

Are you really going to pretend Chichi Chichi doesn't exist? Laughing Otherwise, that 'entirely' is doing a lot of heavy lifting.

Did I say it doesn't exist? And you want to pretend manga like Ojojojo don't exist??
Btw, I think Ojojojo would deserve an anime too, but of course they won't produce it unfortunately.

Fair point. I brought that one up because of the mention of priorities. Even with a story like Chichi (which I find funny) Coolkyo often goes of on weird, and often gross, tangents. With Kobayashi it's some of the Riko and Kanna scenes. In Chichi, it's the ghost and sisters.
