Although the method's safety on human subjects still needs to be evaluated, Takebe stressed the need to develop alternate means of treating respiratory problems, especially in the wake of ventilator shortages due to COVID-19.

Assuming someone doesn't pull a Kojima and invent a way to breathe through skin like spoiler[Quiet], this reminds me of Barakamon Episode 2.

Twisted Evil Life saving techniques like mouth to mouth and now... "anal breathing." Yaoi and Bara will eventually use this and I can't wait to see, lol.

James Cameron's "The Abyss" was the first time I've learned about oxygen-carrying liquid long before Evangelion.

Could be very helpful.

Real talk: my brother died 2 years ago by aspirating vomit during a seizure. The EMTs could not get a breathing tube in because the lungs were so full. They did stabilize him later, but by then he was brain dead. I imagine if a liquid like this were available at the time he might have survived.

This is kind of funny when you take into account Japan not censoring the anus, so if there's any demonstration vids coming out, you know what to expect.

I don't know which thing is more funny: the article itself, or Megumi Ogata's tweet about it. Laughing

This is a very promising discovery, and I hope it can be used to save humans someday. So many people died of covid because the damage to their lungs was too severe. When it comes to oxygen, medicine needs more tools.
