Yeah I wish it would pick a tone, it feel like switching between watching Konosuba and some generic isekai every few minutes (and the generic isekai isn't very good)...
I'm also, somehow, even more annoyed at Selene that I was after first episode. I didn't like that first episode reveal that the witch had the same disenchantment power that Llyod used to free Selene yet Selene somehow never bothered seeking her to free her and that for some reason Selene decided to keep wearing belts after finally being free. But you could excuse those as maybe Selene not knowing of the witch existence and... I dunno, belt being useful to hold her dress or something so she keep using them. But no, episode 3 reveal that Selene knew of the witch existence and just never bothered contacting her to undo the curse and that she decided to keep using the very same belt that cursed her as an accessory.
But hey, no big deal, cause there's an even worse character just around the corner, old granny (that's obviously a loli, just so people can make porn and go "but its okay cause she's 4000 years old) who try to give her grandson a blowjob in the middle of the street during a festival... just... why!?

Yup. Yikes-fest confirmed.
Loli baba was fun at first.
But now... oh boy, were they drunk while writing that script?
Well and there goes Tatoeba, to the "dropped anime" bin.
I guess at least I tried...

Well I've enjoyed the comedy, but it does seem odd that things have gone in to over drive in the 3rd ep. Should be interesting to see where this settles in a few episodes (if it even comes anywhere close)

Yeah, I'm not sure how I feel about the series taking a more serious turn... Would have preferred it if it stayed as a lighthearted comedy.
Willing to overlook the irritating Selen as I like Lloyd and Marie.

"So they didn't know what the princess looked like?" No, Marie looks just like the photograph of Princess Maria.
"Oh... so they didn't know about the witch Maria then?" No, they went to see her about information about the princess right away.
So... Maria literally Clark Kented, didn't she? Except if it was a matter of Clark Kent versus Clerk Kant. "They can't be the same guy, Clerk wears glasses."
More accurately, no one was looking for her because all the ones who needed to know, already knew. I love the character Maria as I'm a sucker for sincerity and Maria wants to survive the ending of episode 3 most of all because she hasn't apologized to Ljoyd yet for trying to use him. Aloof witch to princess classic with a single thought to herself, neat. I also love the running gag of the giant grasshoppers.every time Lloyd turned around and they seem to tie into Mertophan and the King.
Names are still really odd and in all honestly, if this was an actual isekai story, I wouldn't be watching it.. Rather than being told why the world is what it is in a series of exposition dumps, Lloyd needs to learn the "World of cardboard" trope.
Kenshi Misaki had the same sort of story himself in War on Geminar. There you go, an Isekai story that's less of a power trip, more actualization of why "great responsibility comes with great power" is also a thing.

So after 4 episodes I'm debating on whether or not to to continue this show. On the one hand, I like Lloyd, Marie, Chrome, and some of the comedy, but I honestly can't stand the rest of it. I did enjoy Loli Baba until she straight up tried to assault Lloyd and it took will power to not stop watching the tasteful nudity bit with Belt Princess.

There is one thing I am confused on, and that is why the Village Chief allows him to apply and become part of the military school when people from the village are forbidden from participating in things like wars unless it is a literal world-ending event. Maybe I've missed something but I don't get that.

Marie actually asked Alka that in an earlier episode and Alka's response was something along the lines about a plan. Marie assumed it was something petty.

I really liked it, Even Selen and Alka were redeemed a bit in the finale of the first book, Alka for doing actual public service without doing it to stroke her ego and... I was going to say Selen redeemed herself but really it was just her belt. But yes, her belt was the first person to stand up to Alka. Well, it does explain why it was doing the scene transitions. And if Lloyd/Maria wants the belt as an ally, he has to take Selen as an accessory; I like it, it's good. Even Chrome had some good scenes, the only one left out of the entire story was Riho who did...
Why was she part of this plot again? "She wanted Lloyd in the academy and she knew the witch Marie". Huh.

Didn't she say that it was just so she could see him in uniform?

Quote: | LasDan puts on a pretty strong fourth episode here, even if, less than a month in, it feels oddly like a season finale episode |
Iirc these 1st 4 eps only cover the 1st light novel.
Assuming the usual 12 episodes for the anime and a rate of 4 episodes per book, they could cover the 1st 3 novels.
Quote: | (Lloyd's) blissfully unaware of how he's placed in the current setting's power scaling. It lets the earnestness we expect of a true RPG hero to shine through – he genuinely believes that upstarts like Allan are stronger than him |
Not to mention his upbringing in a village of superhumans where his abilities fall just below their standards, and being called "the weak one" for most of his life. Like how Lloyd can hold his breath underwater for an hour, but Kunlun's citizens think that's weak-as because they can hold theirs for 3 hours.

Phyllo has exactly the personality I was expected based on how she was depicted in the ending
I was surprised that Riho was also worn out from the training. Wasn't she already working as a merc before joining the school? You'd think she'd be a bit more fit.
The 1 hour healing thing seemed a bit odd. High strength and magic can be part genetic and part training, but that kind of regeneration would basically make them not human. It's not like fighting super strong monsters a lot will build up your healing ability. Unless they have rpg like skills in this world? Though I don't think there's been any mention of game like attributes mentioned so far.
It would have made more sense for Llyod to be unharmed, but I guess it just shows how strong Phyllo is compared to most *shrug*

Oh, I was surprised to see Phyllo with that battle maniac personality. I wonder what she'll be like next week
What was with Lloyd's tournament fight? It's a magic fight (did we know that last week? I may have forgotten and thought it was supposed to be just a generic fight), and he just keeps standing there for 20+ minutes and then eventually goes, "oh right, I should use magic". Long past the joke of him being able to hold his breath for longer than normal wore off. =/
Quote: | I dig the revelation of her using it to seal magical items inside her body for an attack, because it shows that LasDan really can be clever with its combat when it wants to, instead of simply showing off how Lloyd has Bigger Magic than everyone else. |
Yeah, that was a neat trick to go with the set up. Guess that punch wasn't seen by the ref? I was surprised to see her put the mithril arm back on as I got the impression she'd be happy to have it off

I just wrapped up Ep 7. and I believe I am finished with this series. Jokes are stale and I find the MC to be the weakest point of this series.
I have too many other shows to follow this season, so this is done.
