This show is actually hilarious, kudos to the director (of Konosuba fame). More people should be watching this.

I'm glad the PV wasn't misleading, it would be wonderful if this quality could last until the end.
Kokkoro's sour faces are unforgettable, my favorite cat need one at some point.

I really hope they don't really intent to have every princess be in the show, otherwise most of them will have only a short 5 min skits and then the show will just feel like a disjointed mess.

I'm very well of the fact that Kyaru isn't included in the "main heroes" of this review because her only role thus far was as an antagonist, but she's technically one of the three main heroines of Re:Dive and she's waifu, so I can't help but feel bothered by it.
I am very petty.

She even took of the base to reduce the size! Why not just pass it trough the door without the base then!
But yeah this episode is exactly what I was afraid of, they're really intent on having all the character from the game show up, so most will get almost no development and will essentially just make cameo appearance. In the meantime the other character can't really develop because that would take away time from the o so precious cameo. Maybe they'll rush trough most of the crew in the next 2-3 episodes and the show will then get back to normal progression.

This episode felt less important, but still entertaining. That said, as a player of the game, I'm curious, worried, and excited about the anime. The first 4 episodes haven't progressed far at all. We're still in tutorial level content and the reason isn't because of a slow pace, but because they've padded it with [entertaining] original content. I'm almost expecting that the first half of season 1 will be intro for the sake of intro before we do anything plot related. Maybe even all of season 1. I'd usually say this is a bad thing, but I'm enjoying the show too much to care. The game gives us events, side stories, and other features to spend more time with our trio and the other characters, so this still works.
Quote: | “I could tell you what's going on but I won't because I don't think it will change anything” easily ranks among the worst reasons to keep the protagonist (and the audience) in the dark that I've ever heard. |
I don't watch with subs, so I don't know if this was just a lack of context in the translated line, a cultural subtlety issue, or maybe a subtlety I picked up because I already know what she's hiding (someone got a screenshot of the subbed line for reference?), but the implication to me in Japanese was that if the MC learned the full truth of everything, it wouldn't "change anything" for the better, and could be pretty problematic. On the one hand, there are a few things she COULD tell him without consequence (and really, if you haven't figured out Peco's "secret" by now... like, c'mon, she's not even TRYING to hide it), so the criticism still stands, but there's a bit more underlying everything that would probably cause the MC distress to learn all at once before he's had a grasp of the world and its... special inhabitants.
As for the criticism of its fanservice by introducing other cast members, I think that's somewhat fair (I definitely got more out of the exchanges than my roommate did), but again, while many of these other characters probably won't have a huge role, it's ACTUALLY epitomal to the plot that the audience learn about the side characters in some detail. Fans of the game will definitely have questions if someone is missing. I'll leave it at that because I've probably said too much already.
Some final trivia for fun: In the game, Rima was given that special transformation apple by another character in the game so she could go on a date with the MC. There's an actual mechanic as to how the transformation works that... ironically, makes the "undress my skin" thing less weird. I won't say what that mechanic is, though, because... again, spoilers. But it does beg the question of why she has the apple now...

Not much happened, but I still found it enjoyable.

I actually found it pretty funny that instead of her head transforming, she took it off like a costume

Until I read what Juno016 said when I first heard the line I thought it might have been parody. This and similar lines are used so often it's unfortunate.

Right? Couldn't the feet have been taken off?

She has a secret? Was it so obvious that I didn't even realize it was one or is it just obvious to players of the game?

I figured it out in the first few chapters of the game and my roommate figured it out in episode 1 of the anime. I mean, look at her design! Granted, they don't say anything to outright prove the assumption at first, but they might as well be throwing in neon signs that spell it out for you over and over. Again, it's not REEEEAAAALLY a secret. She's not intentionally hiding anything. Kyaru obviously knows the truth.
If you still haven't figured it out, I dunno what to tell you. =P

^ Spoilers tags could be useful, if you want to say it explicitly. Just a thought.

Yeah, might as well. I mean you can't know if you know the what an unknown is when you don't know it *shrug*

But that would be no fun. D:
Sorry to be a tease, though. Just watch the show. I think it'll become obvious in time. If you don't figure it out before the end of the season, I'll spoiler tag the answer. You'll be beating yourself over the head when you see how obvious it is. =P

Just for reference, the exact quote in the English subs is "Even if I told you everything I know right now, it wouldn't solve anything."

This is my surprise of the season. Don't know anything about the game, but it's just fun and enjoyable to watch.
