^Agreed, ep 4 felt like two episodes stitched together, the weird, anticlimactic ending of the first arc and the beginning of the second arc, and both parts were speeding through their material. But I did enjoy the Tilarna/Cecil interaction, and vampires are a solid classic monster to deal with, so I’m still interested. It seems to be this show’s MO to end every episode on a cliffhanger, even if it messes with the pacing.

Gatoh is a good author, but I think he binged a ton of American cop shows while writing this series. I swear I could hear the Law & Order theme in my head when the new boss was complaining about the perp’s lawyer.

Last 2 episodes (3 &4) being rushed or not this is still a great show. I'm enjoying the story and cant wait to see more of the world they are building. Gritty cop stuff is almost always fun to watch.

Episode 3 was such a massive drop in quality.
I’m definitely glad that 4 turned out to be a lot more enjoyable despite the still questionable pacing.
Tilly, Kei, and their VAs are carrying this show for me.

They should stop even trying to do action sequence at this point, they clearly don't have the resource for it. That metro fight scene was just... urg

^ For once I agree with you. It didn't help that half of the action scenes in this episode were in near total darkness, though maybe they thought it did. I don't think all of that was just covering nudity and gore.

Ep 5 Wow, that was made with really dark coloring. I had to switch my tv to way brighter settings to be able to see anything. I didn't like that. If this gets a physical release, I hope they brighten it up a lot.

From the way the wizard and the vampire talked about that book, maybe we are going to get an over arching plot about the book. Ancient lost book, sometimes a popular idea in these stories. Maybe this opening between universes is not the first time there has been an opening. Just speculating.

Ep 6

Was this ep just an excuse for animating lots of car wrecks? It was entertaining as all hell, I will give it that. It was kind of a bonding experience for our two cops, sort of.

Some speculation, for fun, not to be taken too seriously...

So the truck driver in the first wreck disappeared, or at least their body did. Maybe our vampire was in the truck? She's a quick learner, so maybe she was driving. Laughing

More extreme speculation...
Physical porn mags? Have these people not learned how to use an internet properly?

The camera lingered a bit panning across the porn mags spilled onto the road. One mag had a Semanian lady with long dark hair on the cover. Maybe it's a pic of the vampire, 'cause she needed to make some money, and maybe then she changed her mind and decided to steal all the mags back. (? Laughing ? ) Or maybe she was double-crossing the magazine company to begin with. Maybe pictures of her mess with her soul, especially if those pics are used to create extreme feelings. Oh, the possibilities. Smile

Do some of the ep titles sound like, ahem, cultural references or memes?
Midnight Train and In The Air Tonight are the names of songs, I think, and Need for Speed was a catchphrase in the Top Gun movie.

I just noticed you guys forgot to credit Andy Pfeiffer for the last two Cop Craft episode reviews, assuming he's still the one doing them.

Edit: thanks for fixing that.

Well it's been 6 episodes so far (at the time of this post, the review's only covered 5 so I'll spoiler my comments on 6) and god, this is the most disappointed I've been in a show in a long time.
Screw animation issues, I am far more baffled by how the hell does a show manage to be approved with such terrible pacing issues. The characters jump around locations and setpieces so fast it doesn't even feel like a real town, and the supporting characters are so bland and unexplored that you could compare them to NPCs in open world games that just repeat the same lines when you walk past them.

The story feels like it's rushing all the major plotlines while at the same time somehow being paced as if it had 48 episodes. Villains and cases start and end abruptly with Tilarna and Kei barely doing anything, almost as if they're stumbling into the scene or into a macguffin, then both shrug and just head home.

Arms terrorist? Slashed in 2fps, just forget about it and the conspiracy.
Random war mentioned? Just accept it (or forget about it).
Evil mage responsible for mult-- defeated(?) by accident.
Mage guy who wants to learn about the occult? Instakilled by vampire.
Vampire's prophecy? Forget about it she got hit by a truck anyway.
Then on ep6 spoiler[sudden comedic episode that falls flat on almost every joke and only serves to make people screencap Tilarna's reactions and go "hehehe :3 cute". I do that with PreCure episodes and even I'm disappointed in it. Plus her crashing cars all the time isn't funny at all to me and just made me pissed off she was being tsun about destroying his hard-earned vehicle not once but twice. That's not cute or quirky that's completely irresponsible and infuriating.]

It's been six episodes and the only development between the two of them is Kei isn't allergic to cats anymore. Tilarna is the absolute weakest "bland tsundere loli bait" character I've seen since early 2000s anime trying to ride JCStaff's Tsukaima/Shana/Toradora KugimiyaRie-infused tsundere train.
Which I guess makes sense considering the LN is from 2009 but I'm finding it hard to believe the guy who wrote FullmetalPanic would write something this awful, so I'll chalk it up to the Berserk2016 director being terrible again.

Anti-climax might have been the intended point, as the only thing the Vampire contributed to the overall plot was being asked by our old wizard friend about “The Book of Niba.”

So, 99.99% sure this isn't the plot, but in French "nibar" is slang for boob (it was probably imported from another language, don't know the etymology of it) and episode 6 is all about how physical porn book are extremely rare in the other world... So maybe the book of niba is just an old porn book. I just like the idea of this old wizard having to g oto such lenght just to get off. Laughing

Honestly ep 6 was better, but the action scene at the end was still such a mess and impossible to follow (who threw a flash grenade? How was Key the only one looking at it? How did the bad guy drag his hostage to a car without anyone stopping him?). But the idea is really cool, I wish more of the story was about exploring the cultural difference between the world. Did the other world forbid the importation of porn or is this part of a blanket ban? How much trade is there between the world?

I actually though they made it super dark to hide animation issues.

Oh my god, is it the same guy doing this? That explains a lot if it is.

Even when Shin Itagaki was backed by decent production values on shows like Black Cat and Basquash (before he was fired from it), I thought his action scenes were very disorienting and poorly staged. Millepensee's low-quality animation only makes his shortcomings as a director more evident.

Yeah, at this point, I'm convinced that this show isn't going to get any better. I probably could have dealt with the baffling plotting and cliches, since I do love the IDEA of the setting, and Tilarna and Kei are my kind of cliches.

Unfortunately, the fact that it looks flipping awful, and the action scenes keep setting new standards of incomprehensibility and incompetence, just pushes it over the edge for me.

Dropped for now, but I look forward to continuing to read the reviews! If it gets better I'll be back...or if it gets enough worse to be 'so bad it's good'.
