If I was there, I would've yelled "WHERE'S THE GOOD BLU-RAY SET?" after they finished.

The fact that there was a previous record to begin with makes me scratch my head. You can do any abstract thing that no one's done before and become a world record holder for at least a little while. I feel like Guinness World Records don't have the same meaning they once did.

They never did, if I'm being brutally honest. There's always been records for the most bizarrely esoteric and specific feats out there.

Well, you have to remember it's ultimately a promotional stunt for a brand of beer, not some sort of rigorous official institution. So a lot of the "records" are goofy things to target particular subcultures, and/or not really world records at all. Some Minecraft tuber found one that was really easy to beat, but also found that there was no practical way to get the recorded record overturned (without giving Guinness a bunch of money).

While it was started by a Guinness managing director, it hasn’t been owned by Guinness in over a decade. It’s currently owned by the company that owns Ripley’s Believe It or Not, among a variety of other things.

Doesn't change the fact that it's a for-profit institution. Actually, if there has been a change in its content in the past ~10 years (2008 was when it changed hands), the new management might be the reason why.

...that doesn't not make this cringey.
Since when did fun and cringe become mutually exclusive? Your "fun" can still be cringe.
