It's a very immature level-like stunted on teenager. Guy doesn't understand females, so he's sort of afraid of them, so he has to belittle them & if he can make her squeal or beg for sex, he has the power over her (Alice Cooper again-"Man's got his woman to take his seed. He's got the power, she's got the need." "Black eyes all of the time & don't spend a dime & clean up this grime & you there down on your knees begging to please come watch me bleed") It's an abusive personality. Maybe he's carrying baggage from some girl he liked treating him like dirt so he has some deep-seated need to get even & thus can probably never have a decent relationship with a woman.
That is some serious bad attitude to have toward all women just because he didn't get on well with his first woman. I would imagine that a man like that saw that sort of behavior from his own father toward his mother and therefore has that embedded in his mind that that is the way to treat women in general.

Surely you remember your teen yrs. Even if you always respected women, I'm sure you knew guys that didn't (& may know some still). I remember in 9th grade overhearing one boy reeming out his friend because the polite boy's girlfriend fell asleep at the movies on the date & the polite boy didn't do anything & the other boy was going on about what he'd have done & how the polite boy blew his opportunity
Sure I remember my teens, well the good parts at least. I don't like to boost, but I had my , I think you yanks call it, "cherry" broke when I was 16. It was with mutual consent between her and I and it was her idea in the first place. I hated blokes like what you described. I wasn't very nice to them and they were never invited to my house. I was even brought before the headmaster for punching one of them because he was rude to me about a girl I was dating whilst in secondary (high school).

Yeah, I've gotten the impression you're a gentleman.
My late husband wasn't. There's all the usual excuses of why I stuck it out (Brain amage from an accident so he had a volitile temper & functioned on a teen level. I think mostly stubborn on my part. One co-worker pointed out it was like I had 2 kids, not 1) & he's out of the picture now. Yeah I cried & was sad when he died, bit after the shock & all wore off it was a good year or so before I worked past all the negative stuff & could actually remember the good. He was good with all the negative stupid comments about females, but overall we got on well.
And not only him, his friends were that crowd. I came home from work one day in the first year of marriage & my Shakespeare collection was missing-he hid it because his friends made comments about it.

So I also really have fairly recent memories of those sorts of guys. It's a lot easier to dismiss when they're young (they'll grow out of it when they meet the right woman). It was the older guys (40's, 50's) I considered real misogynists. We had a neighbor who had a girlfriend I never saw, but the way he talked about her & women in general was horrid. He only watched Swedish Erotica porn because regular porn was a waste-too much story. The SE were 3 20 minute episodes, so it was straight to the sex. And being a polite girl to strangers & casual friends, I kept my mouth shut. Actually, he's probably pretty similar to the one character in Genshiken-very exacting in what he wanted & very opinionated

Later generations (& there are always mavericks who think ouside the block, so some of the WWII generation) have no problem voting for women or-like myself, give a female candidate the vote in a situation where I have no real opinion (school board elections, judges). I say the more gals in congress, the better.

I realize that the fact that Clinton's a woman comes up/has come up/will continue to come up until after the elections, but oftentimes, it makes me a little irritated that it's even an issue.

Yes, she's a woman. Yes, Obama's black. Neither of these issues should be important at all when it comes to choosing a good candidate. If Hilary was white, I'd still consider her issues and agendas the same way-- if Obama was white, I'd still consider his issues and agendas the same way. It's a shame that more people won't look past their minority statuses and actually see them for what they stand for.

This wasn't directed at anything you said in particular, by the way, I was just griping on how many people I've heard lately commenting on the issue of Clinton being a woman.

When you said "if Hillary was white" did you mean to say if she was male/a man? I ask because she is white so that confused me since you were trying to say if they were the opposite of what they are. Right?

Er, sorry. I meant to say "if she was a white male." Typo.

Ah ok. Well that makes more sense now heh. Though personally I wouldn't vote her regardless if she was a man or alien ro whatever. But you are right the gender/race issues are rather trivial when deciding who you want to run the country for the next 4 years at a minimum.

I know this is way off topic, but I've decided the black bar annoys me too much to be concerned about spoilers in forums. Does anybody know how or if I can change this? I looked in my profile but I didn't see anything that mentioned spoiler alerts.

Thank you. Smile

I don't think there is, but how much more work is there to just put your cursor on the spoiler tag which then clears the black bar?

It'd be great if we could be a totally colorblind & genderblind society, but that is hard to attain. It's almost like it's a slap in the face when I run into a full-blown bigot. It's just so amazing they can still exist. Yeah, one or 2 prejudices are one thing, but I'm talking Archie Bunker alive & well.

Because of my job, I run into a number of guys who have issues being told what to do by a female. I pass them on to a male to deal with. It's really amazing how the guy can be all defiant to me or a female officer, but quietly comply with the male officer. And one could imagine those same sorts of guys liking stuff that depicts females in "their proper place" serving men.
