Awesome! I hope they also rescue the rights to the TV series too.

I thought that maybe Nozomi would get it since they been doing a bunch of stuff for Sunrise, but Discotek getting it is great.

"Discotek Licenses Entire City Hunter Anime Franchise"

*Heavy breathing intensifies.*

I think only the first series has a bluray so I'm thinking SDBDs which I wouldn't mind, or maybe if we are lucky, they'll pull off another KOR and get the bluray before Japan?

Been hoping for a City Hunter rescue for a long time, enjoyed Cat's Eye (still have my Right Stuf DVDs despite no Blu-ray and their license expiring this week), enjoyed the Angel Heart J-Drama that's on Crunchyroll and also liked what I saw online of the first season a few years ago. Also approved of Ryo Saeba's appearance in Jump Force (one of the few positives of that mess of a game and his inclusion had to do with City Hunter's popularity in France) so now that the anime's coming out here again, along with Shinjuku Private Eyes (who would have thunk it considering that movie is still new), you damn right I'll be buying. Very Happy

And this is why Discotek continues to be awesome!

The entire City Hunter anime franchise licensed!

Now for Shinjuku Private Eyes, I wonder if they will actually produce a dub for it?

Fantastic! My only experience with this franchise is the Magnum movie, which I didn't really like because I felt I should have already cared about the characters when watching it. Can't wait to check out the TV series and see if I'll enjoy those more.

Hopefully it won't take Discotek as long to get these as it took Funimation to get their Sunrise titles, or worse, how long it is still taking Sentai to get theirs:

I wonder if Shinjuku Private Eyes had anything to do with this, as if they saw this brand new entry and decide the time was right to start releasing City Hunter.

And aside from Big O, none of them have been released have they?

They did manage to release Giant Gorg & Crusher Joe on DVD (though they still haven't released the latter on Blu-ray yet) so they probably won't take very long in getting the first series out but the real question is what will be done with the rest of City Hunter from 2 onwards since there hasn't been any news on HD remasters for either of them yet.

Nope and a couple of them have since gotten Blu-ray releases in Japan like Betterman & Infinite Ryvius (both upscaled).

Cool. Discotek keeps knocking it out of the ballpark with these license rescues. I plan to at least buy the first series and a couple of the movies.

Seriously THANK-YOU Discotek!!!!

20 years of waiting for City Hunter '99 special to be released (fansub (2 actually) I've seen). I own the LD for it. Really didn't think it would ever get a release in North America.

Even more excited the 2019 movie got licenced too!

Aniplex released CH TV series 1 on Blu-ray Jan 30, 2019 in Japan. Other sets for the anime are supposed to come out. Just not sure how well can improve quality of the TV series especially given 1987 started. So DVDs would be fine I think.

Now wait for news on WHEN I can start emptying my wallet.

Great news, I can finally say goodbye to all those ghosts (anyone who's seen older transfers of Sunrise material should know what that means), and save on shelf space!

There were some nice liner notes on the ADV DVDs for specific episodes; one I remember explained the significance of "ippatsu," for instance. I hope they or something equivalent is included on the eventual Discotek release.

I'm also going to be "that guy" and note that Discotek have released a lot of nice material from TMS, most notably from the Lupin franchise. The one remaining anime series with Ryo Saeba in it, that is owned by TMS, would make for a good addition to the City Hunter collection one day...

Neat. I've only seen/read a little of this series, but enjoyed it. If the price is right I might pick up a set and see if it holds up Smile

Finally! I'll definitely be getting the entire franchise. Hopefully Hajime no Ippo, Monster or Hanada Shonen-shi are next Discotek...?

I'm watching the first season fansubbed right now and I have to say Ryo is probably one of my favorite Jump protagonists if the anime continues to hold my interest and love then I will probably just buy the rest of the series and watch it that way! I'm pretty sure this series is in Bluray in Japan so maybe SDBluray or actual Bluray for this series? I literally was just thinking I wish this series was available over here and now I think Discotek are a bunch of mind readers lol. Sentai/Maiden Japan and Diskotek are the best anime companies that are continuing to do God's work with releasing all these amazing classic anime. Keep up the good work guys!

I would like to thank the Jump Force video game for getting me into this anime and character. BLESS Embarassed
