They had better not cancel the US release over this. Can't believe Watsuki gets a slap on the wrist for kiddie porn but this guy goes Tony Montana a little bit and they blacklist him and pull video games from sale.

I would like to think so. I am happy Japan has a zero tolerance policy on drugs which help keep Japan's crime rate down.

Your statement is a paradox, if drugs were legal, the crime rate would be even lower.

Either way, it really is kinda interesting how draconian the Japanese authorities are handling usage of illegal drugs, considering how rampant alcohol abuse and nicotine addiction still is in the country. I really wanna look into what shaped their strict approach of East-Asia in general, as opposed to the laissez-faire approach of Western nations.

Yes but apparently they don't care as much to help the addict from what I hear.

Opium Wars in China. Asian countries historically notice firsthand how rampant drug use could ruin a country and bring it to the point of destruction. Drinking and smoking are not dangerous for society like those kinds of drugs. Just look at whats going on south of the American border right now.

And this is not just an East Asian thing, since also Middle Eastern countries are along with their Far East neighbors on punishing drug use, sometime with death penalty.

In fact, the only Asian countries when drugs aren't heavily penalized are Yemen, North Korea and Israel, the later is basically a western country who happens to be located in Asia anyways.

Agreed, I have seen enough people destroy their lives with illegal drugs that I think Japan has a smarter attitude towards it than Hollywood which treats it like harmless fun. For better or worse celebrities are treated as role models so it makes sense that Japan takes this issue seriously.

It's protocol for this to happen in Japan, but in a couple years, it'll be back to normal for Taki. Many high-profile celebrities involved in drug abuse scandals have been able to bounce back, most notably Noriko Sakai.

As far as East Asian countries go, Japan is relatively liberal on drugs compared to ones like Taiwan and Singapore, where smuggling contraband drugs is punishable by death.

The idea North Korea is lax on drugs is an urban legend based on the strain of hemp smoked, "ipdambae," as an inferior substitute for tobacco and gives less of a high.

Israel is not a Western country, geographically or culturally.

It's a bit also contradictory to say legalizing drugs will reduce crime while many crimes committed are by people under the influence, no?
