I'm calling it now that Detective Pikachu is going to be number one movie of the year. I have to admit that I gasped when I saw Mewtwo in the trailer. I was not expecting him to be in this.

Why'd they play an 80s track in a Pokemon movie trailer? Anyway I'm extremely curious how this film is going to be, it seems 2019 might be the gateway year for good Anime live action films.

Holy crap, now THIS is promising to be absolutely fantastic.

The humor in particular is my cup of tea, I'm so gonna have a good time with this.

on 1 hand some of the pkmn look off (and not just cause they are "live action-ish")

on the other this will be nightmare fuel for young kids.

and on the aipom tail hand hoping story is actually good (as thats reason to watch a movie)

I'm actually crying after that trailer. Oh my goodness... I can't wait for this movie. I really can't believe I've been saying that, considering when it was first announced I was like "OH BOY... this is a thing... okay then".

Also *gasping forever* Pikachu said 'hell'...

... Welp. Pikachu saying "hell" was one thing I wasn't expecting. Mewtwo was unexpected as well. Both of which definitely got positive reactions from me (laughter and "ooo"s).
That said... Will I try to go see it? More than likely. But am I still apprehensive this may be a crapshoot? Oh, very much so.

Wait... I think I just figured out the mystery. Bill is the culprit. He's the leader of a criminal Pokemon-cloning ring that created Mewtwo. Harry was on their case and tried to stop them, but failed. Then Bill spliced Harry and a Pikachu together to keep him from talking.

Tim Goodman? Is this supposed to be based on the game? It doesn't look anything like it Laughing

They've sweared in Pokemon plenty of times before. Some Pokemon and even some moves have hell in their name

While I am very excited for this, and expect it to do well, I think Avenger's Endgame will want to have a word with you about #1 movie of the year. At least in terms of sheer money made.

I have to admit when I first heard about this movie I thought people must have been high as shit to think it would work out at all in terms of live action. They still might have been, but it definitely looks far better than what I envisioned.

Its because 80s music is awesome and it fits the trailer perfectly.

Exactly what I thought after seeing Aipom, Hobo Ludicolo and Flareon.

But on the other case, somehow Ryan Reynolds acting straight like Ryan Reynolds, except he's a Pikachu, works too good for that movie.

Wouldn't Detective Pikachu more likely be helping Video Game Live Action instead of Anime/Manga? I think the title for Anime Live Action goes to Alita: Battle Angel.

That Flareon was awesome...I've read many sites saying it was Eevee, but I know a Flareon when I see one.

That being said, look at the scene with the Machamp directing traffic...a certain "MISSING" Pokemon is in that scene. And he was quite the bully on Pokemon Mystery Dungeon as a hint.

Living near where much of this was filmed, it is rather novel to see a high-profile Hollywood film using modern London buildings and streetscapes for its backdrops rather than the same old tourist spots. There are more than a couple of geographical Easter-eggs hidden away in the footage so far.
