I've picked on Konosuba for not being mean enough to Isekai, but it is a damn good show. It may not be mean enough, but it makes up for it with comedy and heart.

Oh? Could you share the general plot line? Like is it a prequel series focused on her before she joined up with Kazuma, or something else?

That is correct. It takes place 1 year before the start of the story when Megumin and Yunyun were still students in their village and the adventures they have during that time which spans over 3 vols. It also explains Megumin's obsession with Explosion. Theres also a sequel to it which takes place after the events of vol 6 of the main story. Like the article says theres a manga version of the sequel too which is currently ongoing.

I actually feel like this is one of the rare light novel series where the main character is a key part of what makes it great. I like all three main girls too, but Kazuma really holds it together. The spin off is fun too, but personally, I don't think it tops the original.

Bit of a late follow up on this one but, it looks like what they have here is the manga? The image in the linked Yen Press news article is the LN cover and the text is inconclusive, but Yen’s store listing as linked from that article is a manga and the only solicitations in their system for this title are the manga (vols 1&2).
