Nope, see the past three episode reviews, especially episode 11. Keith's backstory is an objective testament to good writing. Not a single credit. Kenny's episode was fairly strong in many areas (developed characters, answered plot points, motivations) and Keith's was even better, which was acknowledged by James, yet rated the same. It is understandable that the last episode is rated lower as it's just a wrap-up and ending with hype. Instead of B/B/B- probably B+/A/B. These were solid episodes. They definitely aren't all Bs. Last season James definitely sounded more fanatical for a few episodes, it seemed like Castle Utgard struck a cord with him. |

I'm really starting to sound like a broken record here, but maybe having such an odd mid-season finale could've been avoided if they hadn't condensed the Uprising arc so much that half way through the season we're already several chapters into the next arc.
Meh, at this point I think I've vented enough of my frustrations with how this season was adapted, so I'm just gonna move on. I'd like to thank James for the interesting reviews even if I found myself disagreeing with much of his analysis. Despite my misgivings about this season as an adaptation, I still found the second half of this arc far more compelling than the first half, while I got the impression that James had the opposite reaction. I always find such different reactions interesting however. I think this is partly because Attack on Titan is always juggling its focus between many different elements (from its puzzle-box plot to its character drama), and different people will have varying degrees of appreciations for these elements. |

I liked this season. We finally got answers to certain things, even if a lot's still open. It's a shame the second half got pushed back, but at least we know more's coming.

And so it begins, the best part of the manga, and from here it only gets even better.
Can't wait for that amazing plot twist infodump much later on. Nice first episode, but I feel like some things in the buildup are missing from the manga since the last season's cuts. |

Maybe it's just because it's been a while since I've last seen it, but the musical scoring in this episode was excellent.

We fans are spoiled by the really good animation, story, and opening! DAMN! I can't stop watching the episode man. Especially the opening. It felt like the culmination of everything since Guren no Yumiya. Love the rainbow filter too lol.

Episode 51
Not a very good entry in the series. Too much talking, and the fight that should've been the highlight of the episode was rather disappointing. I was afraid that would be the case, since a) we haven't seen an actual titan vs titan fight since 2017 b) the production schedule of S3 is a mess c) the staff is still missing quite a few members that worked on S2. Still, other than the Eren vs Reiner fight, the episode looked fine, and you can always count on WIT to make the ODM gear sequences look great.
I'm not a fan of the song. I would've preferred a new melody over a mix of all the previous themes, but that's just me. Although I will argue those rainbow splatters clash with the already weird green tint over the opening. |

^ They did seem pretty flimsy, didn't they. Like a stiff breeeze would just blow them off.
I really hope Reiner has an escape route from his immanent death (and manga readers, please don't drop any hints about this topic, not even of the "I won't spoil it, but you'll be happy," or "you'll be disappointed" sort. Thanks). I don't want to see him killed, and more than that, I still want to know why he's so fervently on the side he's on. We've gotten enough character development to see how conflicted it's made him, to the point of being borderline insane, so I at least want a bit more closure on him than just blowing him to smithereens. We also have Colossal Boy hiding in the wings somewhere (he'd better not be in that box the weird crocoTitan was hauling, since there were no air holes on the front of it where he could look out and see Eren's transformation light), so while there would still be a chance to get the whole story from him, maybe, I still don't want it second hand. I didn't understand the bit about transferring his consciousness into his body. How did that save him from the almost simultaneous blade through his heart? |

I'd usually agree with this criticism. Except right now I've been watching Game of Thrones and AoT's detailed and logical battle plans are great in comparison. |

From what I recall, just as one becomes a titan through the use of spinal fluid, and you gain the memories of the previous titan guy, and given limbs etc. can be grown back with ease, his 'brain' or 'consciousness' no longer resides in his original body, but somehow exists in the body of the Titan's spinal cord, so it's kind of shared with the human body brain. So in a sense when Levi cut his neck, he was still operational because his mind was not residing as the pilot in the human body, he was already in the process of transferring to the Titan body for control. To kill the Titans you likely have to sever the brain/spinal cord as that's where the host/pilot is. It's likely before transforming into a Titan, the passage is through the human spinal column and then into the Titan spinal column. So Levi got him just a few seconds too late. |

That doesn't make sense. If they weren't so loose, you wouldn't need to replace them. If they prove to be the first thing to go, tack 'em down more securely. And if a gust of wind can easily blow them off, there's little point in having shingles at all, since they'll all be blown away during the next rainstorm. Also, they don't seem particularly plagued by earthquakes in Titanland, except of course when Titans are stomping through town, something that hadn't happened for a hundred years. Anyway, I know it was only a visual throwaway to enhance the fight, but I (and I assume Dicku-kun) just thought it was amusing. I kinda get why the blade to the neck didn't kill him, but I don't see how the one to the heart (and likely on through to the spine, given how hard he stabbed him) didn't do the trick. |
