Well, X-men Evolutions' one of them [X-men Evolution's comic adaption featured art by Udon btw, who now do art for Capcom]. I was mostly referring to the 1980's New Mutants series (great series respomsible for popularizing Rob Liefeld before it ends it's 10+ year run, and the 1990's Generation X series. On a note, most of New Mutants cast was incorporated into the cast of X-men Evolution in their subsequent seasons [Cannonball, Wolfsbane, Mirage, Sunspot, Magma, Boom Boom and others]. The New Mutants series was also relaunched in the 1990's with some of the original cast acting as teachers to the current stars of New X-men, Marvels' current "Romance and Teen Angst for you!" X-men series. http://comics.org/covers.lasso?SeriesID=2755 http://comics.org/coverview.lasso?id=38481&zoom=4 I triple dog dare them to reference this cover somewhere in the X-men one. Of note, here's a review of the 90's X-men manga based on the animated series from a 1997 issue of Ex Magazine http://www.ex.org/2.2/23-xmen_manga.html Which is probably older then some of the people browsing this forum..... anyhoo, given X-men's a title that's had a solid female fan following for ages, this certainly isn't the first or last time Marvel's gonna experiment with this kind of title [check out the X-men:Firestar digest for a blast from the past on this sort of title] On another tangent, if this involves Kitty Pryde, will it involve..... Ninjas? http://comics.org/covers.lasso?SeriesID=2876 [seriously people, X-men+Japan=Nothing New, but quite fun!] |

God Marvel and DC have been trying to combine weird things in the past like the Annogram (defintely wrong name but I don't know it) where they mixed all the characters from DC and Marvel together.
But this is just rediculously out of the blue? X-Men and Haru? ROFL. |

No, they're just using Fruits Basket as an exampleof a popular shojo title which this may appeal to fans of. Not a Fruits Basket/X-men Crossover, just X-men targetted at a similar audience as Fruits Basket. And really, Kitty Pryde is an ideal lead for it- cutesy teenage genius/computer whiz with a pet purple baby dragon! That's ideal Shojo lead material there. As for why? Well, there's a lot of people who like X-men. A lot of people who like Shojo manga. Probably a decent amount who like both. I mean, c'mon people, there's already a lot of fanart that fits this description [and I totally cop out to being someone who draws such stuff http://andrepaploo.deviantart.com/art/Kitty-Pryde-37275222 ]. There's a market for it Just because you might not like it doesn't mean someonelse won't. There's already similar material already out there, official [and fanmade, but more then enough official to recognize the market for it], to see where there could be a market for it. I actually quite like the idea...but then I like anything with X-men in it (I owned/held at some point in my life every volume of the comics)...
I'll buy the first few volumes of any manga they make...just to check it out. |

This was my reaction after reading thus "Del Rey, Marvel to Collaborate on X-Men, Wolverine"
I can see why comics fail so much, but trying to adapt a manga style and also rehashing the same superhero genre isnt going to make manga readers interested. Same goes with the new Batman cartoon. Last edited by LTX198 on Sun Dec 09, 2007 7:31 pm; edited 1 time in total |

http://www.relentlesslyoptimistic.com/2007/10/ebittcho-enjoy-.html Apparently, Chocolate Shrimp is a popular japanese food. http://www.seriouseats.com/required_eating/2007/10/photo-of-the-day-ebittcho.html Whatever ANN's naysayers and Newsaramas similarly bent fans think [seriously? Does the internet never wait till they actually read something to declare it a failure? Or even bother to check out existing work from the creators listed beforhand?], I'm willing to bet that these books'll sell, get good reviews from unbiased reviewers like Library Journal or ComicsWorthReading [ie- without a "that's not manga" or "that's not real comics" agenda before they even read the stuff], and people will keep making manga style comics like they have for the past 30 years, with or without more Shojo X-men [though I'm always for more comics starring Kitty Pryde, so it'd be a win for me if they do more]. I like the work of the creators involved, I like X-men, I like Shojo manga. I don't see why we need to have "Do Not Want" images over something as harmless as this. |

I remember when they paired Wolverine with Power Pax ( a kid oriented comic) and he was watered down so damn much.
But putting a shojo spin on X-men is unforgiveable... Just like to HORRIBLE X-Men Mangaverse. Imagine Wolverine getting nosebleeds seeing panty shots of Jean Grey |

Secound for me. All the TMOHaruhi \ Masked Rider Kabuto fanart I've seen confuses me ever so. |

I would eat ANYTHING that tasted good, if it was covered in chocolate. Shrimp, celery, garlic bread.
I kind of doubt that this will be amazingly successful simply because it seems to be a one-gimmick idea, something that will either hit off with people or not, and might be so gimmick-centric that the story falls through. But I'm still going to look into it. Everyone, American and Japanese, is allowed to make a flop, there's nothing wrong with that. |

I think it should be interesting, and the talent involved is all of a fairly good quality-
http://yaytime.realmsend.com/ Dave Roman is a great indy comics creator, and works for Nickolodeon magazine [responsible for those great Avatar specials] http://www.goraina.com/ Raina Telgemeier is his wife, and the creator of the online comic Smile http://www.webcomicsnation.com/raina/smilecomics/series.php as well as the Baby Sitters Club graphic novel adaptions http://www.scholastic.com/bscgraphix/about/ http://www.scholastic.com/bscgraphix/about/ Anzu 's website is being reworked at the moment, but here's a brief look at some of her DA content. http://manga.about.com/od/imagegalleries/ig/Del-Rey-Fall-Winter-2007-08/The-Reformed-1.htm She's also drawing another OEL book for Del Rey called The Reformed with author Christopher Hart, which hits next April. http://www.antonyjohnston.com/ Antony Johnston has a fairly good resume of respectable indy comics, as well as the Alex Rider graphic novel adaptions from the popular series of YA novels. I'm betting we'll see the same quabble for the next while that we always see when this sort of project gets mentioned at anime forums and non-anime forms from supposed "Purists", but once it actually hits the market, if it's any good it'll probably attract a following. Just look at how well Teen Titans Go has done [which had the extra shennanigans from the really older Teen Titans comic purists who believed that it should of featured the "classic" 60's group rather then the cast from the 80's etc]. |
