And here I was considering watching the rest of Heidi. A cruel fate. He will be greatly missed.

Grave of Fireflies was the first anime I bought when I made the transition from VHS to DVD. He was a great talent, and he'll be missed.

Chrysos: Um, Future Boy Conan is from Miyazaki, not Takahata.

Thank you Isao Takahata for your magnificent body of work. It has enriched my own life and those of millions of other people who have been equally fortunate to witness your talent.

I've always said that I liked his work better than even some of Miyazaki's. Something about Takahata's work (particularly Grave of the Fireflies and Only Yesterday) just connects so deeply with the human experience, and his films were always very moving, powerful, and even a little risky. I'm glad he did finally get an Oscar nomination. He absolutely deserved it.
I wish he made more films, but he did make a huge impact with what he did accomplish. May he R.I.P.

I'd rewatch Grave of the Fireflies in memoriam, which is the movie he directed that I liked the most, but I'd cry way, way too much. =(

Very upsetting. Haven't been this disheartened since the death of Satoshi Kon.

The world has lost one of the most brilliant minds of the animation industry. Isao Takahata showed the world that animations doesn't need fantasy to work, that they can portray real life just as live-action films do and even better. That's what he beautifully brings in his works: life, with all its happiness and unhappiness.
Many of his works, such as Heidi, Anne of Green Gables, Grave of the Fireflies, Only Yesterday and The Tale of Princess Kaguya, not only influenced the anime industry but also influenced the lives of many people who were blessed by the mastery of this incredible director. And if it wasn't for him, Studio Ghibli wouldn't exist. The world would be a much sadder place.
Rest in peace, Takahata-san. Your legacy will never be forgotten.

The first Takahata film I saw was Princess Kaguya, even though I didn't finish it I was mesmerized by the animation and tone of the film. Rest in Peace, Isao Takahata, you'll be sorely missed.

And thus passes the man who made a legend of creating films so emotionally draining many will watch them all of once. He shall never be forgotten
