I quite enjoyed the background CG art in Gankutsuou. While it was far from realistic, its whimsical, artificial appearance offered a visual parallel the superficiality of the aristocrats' lifestyles. |

I did not vote in the poll, but if I did it would have been for Asurada GSX!

More than once. TCM plays all sorts of movies. Daytime is reserved for the G/PG rated fare but at night they will play more graphic content. They've even been tongue-in-cheek with playing high quality crap like Gymkata. I wish that I could've made it all the way through Belladonna but it was so late and my body couldn't last. What I saw was really good. The studio wisely uses the panning shots for the story and then uses the animation for the emotional bits: If you didn't know that was because of budget, you'd assume it was a stylistic choice. |

Yeah, I would've substituted Mob in place of OPM. Aesthetically, OPM is incredibly boring, if I'm being completely honest. I love it, and it has excellent action highlights, but outside of that "action sakuga", it is a pretty boring looking show. There is nothing interesting about the character designs, backgrounds, character animation, color work, or anything. Meanwhile Mob Psycho had meticulously designed everything. And there was hardly a moment that wasn't a chance for a creator to show off their specific talent/skill(case in point is that paint on glass, of course). I especially loved how certain episodes were almost like a showcase of specific talents, like episode 8's multiple takes on fire animation each deliberately distinct and uncorrected to show off how these artists approach the same thing differently. |

Eh I'd put Mob Psycho over Opm in that list. Technically it's impressive than Opm in every way.

One thing that shocked me about OP-M is Puri Puri Prisoner. To me the shocking thing is that they allowed a pedo-/ephebophile in that series. How that part got approved for the manga and anime is curious.

Redline is my go to visual anime feast..
I have the Gankutsuou Blu-ray (UK release based on Japanese master). and it's a visual fail, DNR'd all the detail out of it, to the point where I prefer to watch Geneon's interlaced DVDs. It's a shame as the lossless audio on the Blu-rays is demonstrably better than the DVD audio, and for a show as rich in music as it is in the visual aesthetic, you kind of want to watch the DVDs with the BD audio. |

What I like about Mob Psycho 100, design-wise, is that they decided to build off of ONE's clearly nonprofessional drawing. As a result, you have a rough, sketchy, very off-model kind of show, but it woks very well for it. When I heard Bones was making an anime of it, I wasn't sure how they were going to approach it, but I'm glad they picked the route they did.
My guess is that it's because One-Punch Man was originally published online with a relatively small circulation, so they could get away with things by slipping under the radar. Then, when Yusuke Murata made the new one, the decision was to keep as much of the original version as possible. (Also, I always had the impression that Puri-Puri Prisoner wanted to get it on with EVERYONE, not just minors, and that he was serving time for, erm, nonconsensual sex. He never actually makes any serious attempts at it in-story, just some aggressive flirting--otherwise, he'd definitely be pushed straight into villain territory.) Over time, I noticed Puri-Puri Prisoner's gimmick went from pansexuality to just being naked all the time. That might've been ONE being asked to tone him down or something. |

Disgusting! Of all the thumbnails that ANN could have use they have to THAT thumbnail. ANN I demand you remove it. What where the developers of Belladonna of Sadness thinking are they trying to make movie audience disgust and sick of these scenes?

But I have faith future audiences will re-evaluate and rediscover it, and place it at the pedestal it belongs in. |

I'm very surprised that Mononoke did not make the list. That one has incredible style.

Because it's in part 1 of the list animenewsnetwork.com/the-list/2018-03-24/.129326 Anyway, I would add Pop Team Epic. It really experiments with styles. |

That explains it! I thought I clicked on it. But I actually didn't Been meaning to check out a few of these for a while that I haven't seen. I can't think of much to add for the style in recent work, Madoka sums up a lot of Shaft's style. |
