I wasn't aware that he stopped being one.

Out of retirement... thank god!!!
Trying to save up for a Nintendo Switch just so I can play Super Mario Odyssey for myself (and get that as-yet-released core Pokémon RPG in development). Heard some wonderful things about that game, and actually played a demo of it at GameStop.

You might say that he had simply too much in the pipeline.

When was the last time Mario had to unclog a sh***y toilet or fix a water heater?

Let's hope for Nintendo not to let Mario change jobs from now on.

I’m assuming the 80s. Fame really changes a man.

I did not know they had Mario retire for some time...then again, they never made any Mario games where you have to clean toilets or something...

Maybe Mario is like Miyazaki and he always keeps constantly coming out of retirement.

I think the old text was referencing how Mario found the Mushroom Kingdom doing his job one day. At least that's the implied narrative, and The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! specifically says so from the OP lyrics. Then again, what has ever been canon in Mario?

He's been an ape Wrangler, a race car driver, a space explorer, a construction worker, a music composer, a hotel manager, a cleanup worker, a referee, a circus performer, and a bunch of other things (excluding a plumber)....so not likely

Especially since he's Nintendo's equivalent to Mickey Mouse. Like Mickey, Mario doesn't have any specific canon to follow.

Mario doesn’t have a canon so much as a nebulous concept where he’s put into a variety of settings. I think Miyamoto said once he treats everyone like actors who go into different roles.

This ain't news worthy. Let me know when Mario becomes Harem King. Now's that's something.
