At least they weren't bootlegged DVDs (with the info we have in the article).

Always lock your doors to any room big value collections, you never know when a scornful, jealous, or flat out deranged partner or spouse will go insane then steal or destroy your stuff. It's also not the first publicized case in Japan this year either.

The limited edition DVD volumes for True Tears are nice. Definitely one of my favorites. The BD box I have is a limited print from the dot-anime shop.

Some of my really pricey (and controversial) stuff I keep in a “secret location”. To be honest though a lot of it doesn’t hold its value very well. I bought the Cardcaptor Sakura BDs for upwards of $500 USD new almost half a decade ago? Saw the same ones on Amazon the other day for $200 USD. New 4K scan sets coming up very soon...

I can't believe that store unsealed those disc sets. Id say that would devalue them by at least 50%

When accepting pre-owned goods like this, that's kind of a bridge they have to cross to ensure they're not selling empty cases. Even if the cellophane has stickers, people can fake it.

This is the reason why I hide my more valuable collectibles extremely well. Too bad that this poor guy learned the hard way that it’s better to be safe than sorry. Sad

I see a ungrateful person taking advantage of kindness of her boyfriend. Sure, people in relationship fight over various issues, but selling boyfriend's stuffs for money is just wrong. If the girlfriend simply destroys her boyfriend's stuffs out of anger, then her problem is somewhat understandable. However such isn't the case.

On the side note, a friend of mine got himself a couple of storage cabinet so that he can lock his anime DVDs, toys, and books away from his two little kids. Kids are cute, but they're destructive when it comes to stuffs.

They would've repackaged them very well anyway. Every used JP BD I've bought used has been repackaged in high quality resealable poly bags. Sometimes you can't even tell the set has been opened.

I cant image how gut wrenching it must have been to find out his highly valued unopened boxsets had been opened.

Its like some mofo taking your cute little sister out and then later finding out that she was brutally beaten. Truly, truly awful.

And he was storing those as long term investment. Since I guess these collections are so rare in Japan than over time they will become rare to items so accumulating those is almost like buying paintings.

Given Japanese prices, I imagine it isn't difficult to steal 800 dollars' worth of DVDs. They'd fit into a handbag.
