A couple of these I already own, others I plan to get in the future. I didn't even know there WAS a series set for Samurai Jack. I definitely have to cop that. Also have to get Haikyuu.

I want Gundam Wing, but I'm on the fence. I watched a couple of episodes recently and it didn't really hold up...especially the dub. I may still get it though for nostalgia sake.

So is there a release cut-off date for products to be included in the guide? I ask because one of the BD sets in the list looked like a good idea for someone I know. Unfortunately, the release date is probably too far into December to receive on time, unless maybe I were to pay for ridiculous expedited shipping. There are already a few things I pre-ordered that are expected later because the release dates are in mid-December.

I try to only include items that will be released before Christmas. If you pre-order the item, at least in my experience, it will arrive by (or sometimes a little earlier than) street date as opposed to being shipped ON street date, if that makes sense.

Thanks. Maybe I'm ordering from the wrong place. Very rarely do items I pre-order ship before the release date. A couple of times I received the Sailor Moon sets early but, not the last couple. Usually with my pre-orders it takes a day or two past the street date for it to ship and then the transit time too, which can get extended in the winter.

I get that DVD/BD combos having features like soundtracks will add to the prices, but I don't know if "Speed Racer" being nearly $300 is justified.

Since today is fashion day, anybody tried buying an Umaru-chan hamster hoodie/cape things? I see plenty of them but they all seems to be made by amateur and it's hard to trust the quality of them.

I had a vague idea that Hot Topic produced clothing that was germane to general pop culture, but to learn that they include licensed anime apparel surprised me. I thought it was only the importers and tiny specialists that did that! (How times have changed.)

Actually that is a bit of a messed up comparison. $85 for Fruits Basket is the MSRP (fake price) If you follow the link to Right Stuf! the price is $63.74 and if you can do without the chipboard box and a dozen post cards the standard edition is $52.49.

For The Girl Who Leapt Through Time on the other hand if you follow the link to Funimation the actual selling price is $34.99 the comparable MSRP is $49.98. The selling price for the Standard Edition at Right Stuf! is $26.24 however in this case you would be giving up a lot of on disk extras (directors interview etc.). So if you like that sort of thing it might be worth the extra $8.50.

I should also point out that Fruits Basket is a two season show at approximately 650 minutes while The Girl Who Leapt Through Time is a movie at 99 minutes with an additional 99 minutes extras according to Funi.

I think the Utena set is about $146 right now, actually. To say I'm tempted is an understatement. Sad

Amazon has the set at $128.59 as of this writing. I already have it on pre-order.

No. Nooooo. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

That Speed Racer collector's set better not be what they are solely selling Mach Go Go in. Please tell me that we are going to get a standalone set for the Japanese version. Because otherwise........ Fffff-Bell clangs. Ned Flanders: That's the loudest piece of profanity I've ever heard.

I think you're going to be disappointed...

People that are Speed fans want the dub. The dub along with the racing action is what made the show iconic. The Japanese part is incidental whether people here want to acknowledge that or not. I mean it's a racing show for goodness sake! Laughing
I've seen bits and pieces of the Japanese version and frankly it wasn't all that different. There wasn't as much to edit out as people think and I'm pretty sure (going by the subs I saw) that the stories weren't altered all that much.

I agree, though, this is a CRUMMY way to do it but it's also possible Tatsunoko forced Funimation through the license agreement to release the series this way. If that's the case, they really need to rethink the negotiations and NOT do this again but sometimes they can't do a darn thing and the series holder won't budge.
There were some really weird past releases of shows where the release pattern was mandated by show owners (Gantz, for instance, and Record of Lodoss War more recently).

Still, $300 for a 50-year-old series is too rich for me...
... and the 1997 remake really isn't that good, either.

I might have gotten the set, too, but again, the pricepoint was ridiculous, I don't need Speed's face staring at me and taking up HUGE space on my shelf, and I sure as hell don't need the 1997 series which was not-so-good. That was par the course for Tatsunoko in the 1990s. They did remakes/reboots of a few of their most popular shows (Casshan, Gatchaman, and Mach Go Go) and none of them were very good. The remakes are pretty much forgotten and anybody with sense (good taste) would tell you to get the original shows and watch those instead.

With regards to Gatchaman Crowds and especially Casshern Sins, I would strongly disagree.

I think GeorgeC is specifically referring to Tatsunoko's 1990s remakes. Casshern Sins and Gatchaman Crowds were from this century.

If YenPress hadn't delayed it twice already Saga of Tanya the Evil would have been out by now. UGH I'm so blown.

Kind of surprised these weren't mentioned seeing as how these were just released earlier this month, or at least one of them.

Maybe it's my bias, but it'd be criminal if this series was neglected!

Well, I'm officially sold on So I'm a Spider, So What?...for myself. This was the first close-up I'd ever seen of the cover art, and I love what appears to be the terrified spider girl design. Laughing

No one in my little corner or the world has been quiet about A Small Charred Face. I’ve been hearing about it from different people for months. Let the Right One In (the Swedish one, not the remake) is a good book and movie too.

Happy to see My Brother's Husband and My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness on the list too. I know people who usually don't read comics that enjoyed those.

I’ve got the Chi’s Sweet Home coloring book pre-ordered for gifts too. (Though probably be giving it around New Year’s.)

Too bad Record of the Lodoss War: The Grey Witch had that printing error that pushed its release so far into December.

Maybe I'll try to get the Gundam Wing and Sailor Moon Crystal Season III sets (I'd also love that cute Eternal Sailor Moon plush)...

And Utena too.
