Of all the weird ideas for video games, this one has to be one of the weirdest. Old fashioned rifles vs. modern day weapons? I'd never thought I see that in a video game. I'd probably think there wouldn't be anything that could top this but I could be wrong. To me,the whole premise of this game is just flat-out weird. But,I wouldn't be surprised if there were a stranger game out there already under development.

I see you haven't heard of Sengoku Night Blood, Marvelous' previous mobage, which is set in a fantasy Sengoku era with the famous warriors as vampires and werewolves. Not because there's any particular vampires vs werewolves lore involved, mind, it's just so they can substitute bloodsucking for sex (it's all very obvious) leaving the game's rating PG; and also to include all sorts of kemonomimi hijinks for the werewolves, including ear scratches and tail petting. As an added bonus, some genius in the staff managed to cast Shimazaki Nobunaga as Akechi Mitsuhide (ie the guy who historically caused Oda Nobunaga's fall). The anime is airing right now but it does absolutely zero justice to the game - neither the gorgeous character designs, nor the hilarity of it all.

Or, of course, there's always Bakumatsu Rock which re-casts the Ishin Shishi revolutionaries as '90s visual kei style rockers and the Shinsengumi as government-approved idols and police force who brainwash the masses with their magic idol songs. No, really. That one also had an anime which at least realized that it shouldn't take itself seriously so it was also delightfully stupid.

As for this particular game, it seems weird and silly enough, but the art looks so boring and nondescript. If you're willing to do such a silly set-up you should at least do it with flair...

Huh. I really like the designs, though I don't know how many of them I like for what seems to be. . . otome. . .? Or at least, as blatantly aimed at the female audience. But they are very refreshing in a way with how grounded it is, but it seems like the wrong concept and audience.

I didn't know or realize any of that about Sengoku Night Blood, and am now committed to playing. I notice this is a pattern with quality mobage though. GBF is such a quirky game with lovely art; not much of which is translated to the anime adaption (which wasn't bad, but I'm hoping the next adaption is way different and not just a sequel). Seems like the case with SNB too. Unfortunate, but I guess unsurprising.

Also interested in Bakumatsu now. Huh.
