And your stake in that is what exactly? |

Why? Why does it bother you what other people do? Valve is so stupid and hypocritical. The entire industry is. It's okay to commit mass murder in games but a little consensual sex? Nope. BANNED. |

Steam is literally throwing away money by not allowing adult content.

They make more money from lootboxes, doubt they care. This is why you never buy from Steam. |

I was not aware of this happening. I heard about Wonderful Everyday/SubaHibi being released on Steam which has that kind of content and an uncensor patch, but not any sort of recent trend of "extreme" games. I guess Muv-Luv Alternative also came out recently, but that doesn't have an uncensor patch (yet?). |

Steam's double standards, which are actually those of U.S. society, strike back once again. You can be as violent, gross and gory as you want, but please don't include any sexual content. Can't say this is surprising.
To be fair, the platform has been recently flooded with a number of censored cheap eroge that offer nothing in terms of gameplay, relying on the explicit or implicit existence of these patches in order to sell copies, but I don't think this is the right response. I haven't seen any of this "extreme" stuff that is being mentioned. I HAVE seen more numerous adult titles coming out though. and with those more than a few troll "crusaders" trying to cause a ruckus in the forums from some kind of "righteous" stance. I wonder if they are more responsible than anything else.

Corporations are so scared of bad publicity that we are entering an era of secular puritanism. It is due to polite society making it harder and harder to sell products that might offend someone combined with Steam having the typical corporate response of wimping out as quickly as possible.

I'm not a big fan of censoring things that are legal to own, but I'm also struggling to see the problem here. Having publishers link to content that violates Valve's guidelines on Steam undermines their efforts. Steam's a privately owned storefront. This doesn't prevent anyone from modifying the game to add this material, it just prevents publishers from sharing how to do it on Valve's platform. If that mere requirement truly offends you, there are plenty of other PC game retailers out there. This isn't a console situation where if Sony, Microsoft or NIntendo says "Nope" that means no for everyone that owns the hardware.

You do know Valve just culled like 500 such games a couple weeks ago right? Also this is probably just a legal thing they have to do or something. Players can still talk about such patches in the forums or reviews, it's the devs that aren't allowed to post a direct link themselves, they could just as easily have a spouse drop it on the forums for them they jsut can't have it in the product description or news release. |

Valve rarely explains any decision they make. Though I guess it wouldn't be surprising in this case considering it's equally as rare for Valve to do any sort of moderation on Steam. |

George Carlin said it best.
Now that I've made my point, consider DRM-free alternatives and stop feeding Valve. I've stopped buying games from them since '09 and haven't felt the difference. |
