Trump is a golden opportunity too good to pass to joke about.

Manga authors love to joke about Trump, do they? Itagaki in Baki, Oku in Inuyashiki, now Ohwada.
And yes - if the antagonist is Trump, is it possible to count on return of the one hell of a badass Putin, who was one of the main characters of first arc? |

I can't seriously be the only one finding this ironic given all of the recent crap that just happened with "North" Korea.

For Christ's sake... this obsession with Trump is insane. I think these people need mental help at this point. Not everything is about politics. Get a life!

That's a bit of confirmation bias at work. A lot of western politicians are parodied in anime and manga. From what I've been told, Japan is liking Trump's harsh stance on the North Korea situation, which isn't much of a surprise. -Stuart Smith |

Yep, I'm tiring of seeing this clown and he's ceased being funny and now has become worrisome.

There are probably some who like a more harsh stance on North Korea, but if I were in Japan, I'd be worried he would bumble into a war with North Korea, and Japan would likely be a target and would almost certainly be in range of their missiles. I hate to agree with Steve Bannon but there is no military option there (without hundreds of thousands or even millions of casualties). |

Is there no sanctuary against politics in the anime community anymore?
I get it, people hate Trump. And people around the world hate America. But my take of this manga series is that the mangaka takes advantage of political strife to make sales. Outside of the engagement of political figures, the manga really has no substance. |

Nope. I'd say anime's always been on the side of giving the middle finger to liberals and a haven for people with more conservative viewpoints. We've been seeing some pushback recently, but politics have been overboard and crazy since the election. Just be glad none of this affects Japan or the industry. Worst you'll see is dubs trying to 'fix' problematic shows. |

We already have that with some recent questionable Funimation dubs. People of all creeds want to enjoy anime for the sake of a good story, and get away from politics and other nonsense of the world. But yet people drag politics into the gaming world, the anime community and just ruin the comradery. |

I don't think I've ever watched an anime that actually takes a liberal or conservative stance on anything. I mean yeah, Gundam is anti-war, I know that. So I'm confused to when anime is giving the middle finger to liberals as that one guy is saying. |

When people say that, they're usually talking about whatever fandom groups they're a part of, not anime itself. Some people really want to read western political beliefs into anime, forgetting that it comes from a completely different culture with very different political issues that don't really equate to the western left/right divide. (not to mention that Japanese culture discourages political satire anyway.) Aside from some basic stuff like Gundam saying "war sucks" or Sailor Moon saying "women can be strong and heroic," this idea that anime is universally conservative or liberal is hogwash. Most anime is completely non-political (so maybe people should calm down just because there's ONE manga with Trump in it) and comes from creators with a diverse array of political beliefs. |
