Perhaps the anime for Alicization is finally on the horizon.
Not really surprising, considering the storyline of the movie.

I wonder how many episodes that arc is going to be. Its about 10 volumes of the LN so it could be easly 50 episodes. I do honestly hope they wont rush things.

If they are announcing season 3 it wouldn't surprise me if they do rush through it. It's not like they've animated everything from the Aincrad arc and a lot of what they did animate was heavily condensed.
Problem is Alicization already skips over chunks of the story so adding to that would probably hurt the story quite a bit. I'm thinking if there's any cutting to do it would probably be in the real world segments. Those parts do drag a bit and are mostly exposition.

Yeah, I've only read the first two novels of the arc so far and I can already see places where things can be trimmed down without hurting the story much. I don't think you'd need more than six episodes to adapt the first two novels. If that pace remains consistent then you could come at least closer to getting the series done in two cours.

I'll place a bet it's some sort of new game for a phone or console or other piece of equipment.

Am I the only one hoping for a Girls Op adaptation rather than Alicization? Yeah? Thought so
Oh well, at least with Alicization we'll get another lady knight voiced by Ai Kayano!

That is what they did to Index fans...

The first few novels in the arc are just Kirito roaming around showing off how OP he is constantly (ok he does that part 24/7 anyway). I agree you can easily trim the hell out of the roaming around (including the academy in that). There is actually a lot going on past that involving more characters and character interactions that are important. After the halfway point, that further increases as a lot of characters get introduced.
I can't say they literally couldn't fit it all in 2 cour because LN adaptations have condensed content like that for other series. It would end up pretty rushed though.
