I added My-Otome to the new poll.
It is still one of my favorite shows and with the wide variety of characters and the world that they live in there is a lot of material for a sequel, or a prequel. I would not mind seeing something that ties it neatly together with My-HiME. |

"Most deserving of a sequel"...
My Otome. They've half heartedly tried it twice but it needs a full on two season deal to hook it up with... Cross Ange. See, you expected the Jet Dragon but I went for the real dragons. But Cross Ange doesn't really need a sequel and neither does My Hime; Their stories are done but it never really felt like Arika's story started. It was always someone else's story, Nina's or Mashiro's. Wait, did Arika really have anything at stake beyond her life or her position as an Otome? I always thought My Otome was well made but kind of unsatisfying. |

I choose Daiteioh for two reason: One, I would like see OVA get a squeal or get remade into an actual show and two, I would like to see the Eldran series and Brave series get a revival.

Of all the Sunrise original animes I have watched, there isn't really any sequel that I want to see. I was sufficiently satisfied with all of them. Valvrave is the closest one, but to me a sequel of it would be not very appealing because spoiler[most of the main cast is dead at the end of the show].

They've been putting up new material for Gaogaigar and Betterman on http://www.yatate.net for a few months now so maybe we'll get some new animated works out of it. They also have a new Raijin-Oh novel series going. There's quite a few Sunrise shows that I would like to see more material for, but I'm still going to have to vote for Tiger & Bunny because it left me with the impression that the real enemy hadn't even shown up yet. I would also like to see all those characters interact more. It would be really cool to have more Witch Hunter Robin as well. That show would also make a pretty good live action adaption. Unfortunately I think I'm the only one that actually liked or even remembers that show.

I saw the teaser, and I just knew G-Gundam would get an entry on the list. Heck, you could fill the entire list with mechs from G-Gundam!

You're not alone, pajmo9. Witch Hunter Robin is one of my favorite anime. It would absolutely be amazing if there was a sequel, but after so long I know it's a pipe-dream at best. Same for Betterman, but there I don't know if there really is much more ground that they could cover with that one. Sacrilegious, I know, but I actually liked Xenoglossia, so I would like to see more. Weird that Geass is on there, seeing as a sequel has already been confirmed. And Phi-Brain already had 3 seasons I think? Not exactly a series that really had a story in need of completion or expansion, outside whatever urges led to its creation in the first place.
I don't know, maybe because of all the options Valvrave is one of the most recent so it has the best chance, and because of the setup it created for the potential to expand the story, it has a lot of appeal. Most deserving? Probably Valvrave. My preference? Probably Witch Hunter Robin or Betterman. |

I fondly recall the miniature mecha from The Irresponsible Captain Tylor. While they were sufficiently small to navigate corridors, they seemed a trifle cramped for their often hefty pilots.

@ the person who added Cyber Formula to the poll: yeah, I love this series too, and wouldn't mind yet another season (on the condition they don't screw it up like SIN...), but I don't understand using the full title of a sequel (the franchise as a whole, and the original series, are simply Future GPX Cyber Formula) that got 3 further sequels.
Ehh, if only I could vote on two series, because I had to choose between CF and Dendoh... and the latter is more sequel-worthy IMO as it didn't have any yet. EDIT:
Remember though that the GGG vs Betterman novel is already basically a revival of an anime project (codenamed Project Z) that was announced back in 2005, but only managed to release a trailer, a bit of concept art and a figure of the new main mecha before getting quietly cancelled. It's almost a miracle this got finally released in some form at all, and while I'd like to see it animated someday as well, it seems that a novel is all we can get for now. BTW would like to see something about "anime that were announced but never made" on The List, as I'm sure the Project Z isn't the only one (I recall there was a cancelled Kawamori's project called Mime for example) Last edited by Suisho Kasumi on Sat Jul 29, 2017 3:46 pm; edited 1 time in total |

Man, Sunrise, one of my fav anime studios out there! It was a tough choice, but I really feel like Tiger & Bunny could use a sequel the most, followed by Outlaw Star. I just feel like with Tiger & Bunny, it could go in so many different directions with its world, like it's barely scratched the surface. And more Outlaw Star would just be plain fun. Not really sure why Code Geass is on the list though, I mean, it's already been announced that it has a sequel in the works anyway.
As for more impractical robot designs, how about all the mecha from Gad Guard? IN that series, there's both no cockpits (head loading or chest loading), but there's also no control box/item (like Big O). No, you need to basically be sitting on the robot like Pikachu sits on Ash. Which is fine for traveling, but for fighting? Another series that I recall having some weird mecha designs was Gasaraki. These have a cockpit, but they load from the back, and the pilot isn't sitting down like a chair (like all the other mecha ever), but more on their stomachs, leaning forward. Also, the mecha are designed to pump their pilots full of drugs, so there's also tech for that in there too. Honestly, it's by far the mecha I would least like to pilot (it just looks the most uncomfortable without being fun) |

Technically, EVERY giant robot in anime, or at least most of them, would be impractical to a degree. Legs, for instance, are essentially just very large mobility gear, their only advantage over wheels being highly uneven terrain. There is a reason why real-world militaries have not even come close to going in the humanoid direction, and when they're based on animals, they barely resemble that animal: Because it just isn't necessary. Mother Nature has plenty of good ideas, but she's not that efficient.
Say, there was an anime I saw way back, many years ago, in which the giant robots' pilots would climb into the groin area, where, according to the protagonist in the first episode, it was warm and soft. (Also, there was a girl who liked tomatoes as her sole characteristic.) I forget what that was, but it was definitely worth a lot of laughs at the anime club. Was it Brain Powerd?
For anyone who thinks that all anime adaptations of manga are incredibly faithful.
Well, the paragraph was mostly a list of the different Gundams on there. But that's part of why I liked G-Gundam: It was ridiculous in a dumb way.
Yeah, it felt like they were really expecting Cartoon Network to give them a third season, then it was yanked away. The modern-day Toonami could probably do it though. |

Just remember that at least most of the mecha in G-Gundam tried to be based on some national stereotype.
Sweeden's Gundam was based on Sailor Moon. What the hell does Sailor Moon have to do with Sweeden? I don't care that they named it after Alfred Nobel.
Well that's scale in general. You want practical, you want a powered armor that fits around a soldier, or at most, something the scale of a Scopedog. |
