This guy really needs to get serious psychological help...while spending some time in jail.

This guy needs serious help, and stories/cases like these make hope they take a stronger approach to these kinds threats. As small as they may be, sometimes these psychos take their actions to a whole other level.

How does this line even make sense? I don't understand. Crazy people. No "fan" would want to hurt their idol.

Very true, but unfortunately it is easy for people to hold mutually contradictory thoughts. The man needs help.

Sumipe (or maybe more aptly put, Sumipe's twitter account) gets a lot of harassment and it's kind of a mystery as to why she gets it so bad. It also seems that it's mostly just targeting her and not as much to others in a similar situation. I suppose at some point it becomes a kind of a meme, so it might have escalated into something like the death threats here.

Annie Wilkes from Misery would like to have a word with you.
On topic: another one of these crazed fans bite the dust, and it doesn't seem to effect them at all. Hope this guy learn his lesson in jail.

Wait, so why'd he want to kill her? Is this a fetish of his?

AIUI, the pattern with these things is that to some, "fan" means craving someone, rather than admiring or appreciating them.
So, man craves woman, man can't have woman, man resents woman. Or women in general, instead of a specific woman.
Not that I actually know any details of this case beyond what's in the article, mind you. Just seems to be the pattern.

jealousy is almost always the root of these incidents in japan so i'm pretty sure this just has to do with the rumors of her going out with some ikemen composer

As others have alluded to, yeah the reason people like this keep popping up is because they feel entitled to the idol, because that's how the marketing sold her to them (that's why idols aren't supposed to have boyfriends). So naturally there are bound to be a good number of messed up people that end up taking it very seriously. It really needs to end but since we keep seeing news articles about this and it isn't stopping, I doubt it's going to change. The companies keep making money.

Sounds like he just snapped and went crazy, there's no motive to all of this unlike the other cases, but he needs some help fast.

I share a connection with Sumire so hearing about this made me feel a certain way on a personal level. I am glad this person was caught. Do not release him because he will attempt this again.

Nice to hear that the police are handling this properly. Feel sorry for Sumire for having to go through all of this.

Just for once, it would be nice if it was not a case of someone who may have mental issues. That is, it was they were just "evil" and not mentalyl ill.
