Japanese raccoon dogs are actually part of the Canidae family (dog family).

Have to admit though that it looks a hekava lot like a racoon! I think it's just wonderful that it isn't just a mythical creature...

Yep, they are real, just like how Chef Boyardee and Colonel Sanders were real people and roadrunners and Tasmanian devils are real creatures.

According to its Wikipedia page (with hyperlinks to the sources), raccoon dogs and the North American grey/gray fox are the only Canidae who regularly climb tees.
