Parents, teachers, and older students at times may have to step in and say "this is not for your age level!" However, where the line is between regulating this and being too easily offended and infringing on one's free speech is often blurred.

Well, i think it's not all okay to have books with H-scenes in it. I mean, it's fiction which is harmless but children in junior high are still developing. So, yeah I can see the concern. If this was high school then I would shoot down these claims.

Wait... so the novels were never released to the students?
Why is this even news then? School orders books at random. Said books get delivered. Upon inspection, they note that the content isn't age appropriate. They decide not to release them to the students. In what part of this chain of events is there anything news worthy? Is it because they spent $100 of tax money? |

What's there to critize if the books weren't released? Just return them and get better ones. Y'all know refunds are a thing right.
Again the students never saw the books, so everything good right?

Those books are PG-13 at worst.
For the curious, light novels that American junior highs are ordering/have ordered in the past (data taken from various online library searches): The Devil is a Part-Timer! Durarara!! Fullmetal Alchemist LNs (any school that carried the manga of course also wanted to carry these) Log Horizon The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Naruto: Itachi's Story Sword Art Online (obviously, right?) |

I was kind of on board with this until I read this part:
 I really take issue with this kind of sex negativity. There are plenty of other reasons these books might not be appropriate for kids under a certain age, but having the potential to "arouse" readers is not one of them. Being sexually aroused isn't dirty or wrong. And I really flipping hate that it is so often portrayed that way, especially in ultra conservative societies.

$99 decision, and here I am reading about it on the other side of the world. It's doubtful this story was worth making the local news, but here we are. Anyway, sounds like it was just a thoughtless decision (and they didn't read the titles/synopsis at all? You'd think a school would put a little more effort in cultivating their students/library collection), but it sounds like they saw the covers and realized their mistake (ironically judging a book by it's cover, but....whatever.) No big deal, thank goodness.
