There is a retail mode for that reason. It shouldn't be enabled on a home set unless you choose an incorrect option during setup (some of the models I used to support definitely had this as an option during first-time install). |

I agree, but I've bought sets where that mode was the default. I suspect manufacturers don't want purchasers to see a different image from what caught their eyes in a store. |

I'd like to also throw forth the idea that they're accounting for whoever sets these TVs up in these stores not knowing about or not bothering to change the settings. |
