Disappointing but not surprising. I'm just glad that P5 is still getting a PS3 release. Shame Yakuza 0 is not, but I understand why.

When did console hacks transition from "I've hacked my ____ so I can play import game discs" to "I've hacked my _____ so I can play digital import games for free"? Is this a relatively recent thing, or have I just been out of the loop this whole time?

What's keeping you from just getting a PS3 or PS4? |
I used to have a PS3 years ago, but I sold it. I rarely played on it, all I bought for it was fighting games and a few PSone classics.
PS4 doesn't interest me at all, especially with it's pay to play online nonsense.

Makes sense until you remember all the Persona games (and their remakes/rereleases) have only ever been on Sony platforms. |
Persona Q was on 3DS and there's no Sony handheld for Atlus to drop the P5 re-release on.

Yes a spin off game. That's basically Etrian Odyssey with Persona characters.

Can't wait, my PS4 is ready. The wait has already been too long.

In addition the shin megami games of which persona is a spinoff or vice versa, I don't remember which way it goes have been on Nintendo platforms and actually I believe one game was on the xbox.
I honestly don't see the big deal though, if you really want to play persona, a used ps3 will probably cost you under a hundred dollars, a ps4 can be had during sales for under 300. If you have any decent pc you probably spent at least several times that amount on the pc.

Right. They probably used it as a test to see if Nintendo's audience would react well to the series. They did. Now the option is there for Persona 5's re-release to be on Switch.

Not as far as Atlus Japan is concerned. They've only developed two games on the platform: a first year PS2 port and a rhythm game that was originally going to be outsourced. Their last Vita game was announced way back in 2013. I doubt they're suddenly going to change. The only thing Atlus JP seems interested in releasing on Vita are multi-plat Vanillaware games. Even if they wanted to release Persona 5 on Vita, how would they deal with the 4GB cart limitation? The downloadable PS3 version is 16GB.

Well there is still another way PC players can get Persona 5.
Persona 5 is getting a PS3 version.
Sony has PS Now service that streams PS3 games.
Doesn't PS Now work on PC ?
Basically PC users gotta wait until Persona 5 PS3 version comes to PSNow Streaming.

Eventhough Atlus already said they have no plans to release the game on the Switch?
And I honestly don't see them doing that based off one technicality.

If Persona 3 Portable is any indication they'd likely cut or scale back something from the port that was in the original game like the overworld

Given feedback, I always feel the vanilla version of the game is better.
P3 compared to FES, many don't like the FES portion and the additional stuff is really cosmetic. P3P at least added a female MC and different Social Links, but the presentation was borked due to being PSP and of course I doubt Atlus wanted to spend money reanimating cutscenes with the female version.
P4 compared to Golden, there is a lot more additional content plus a new character and dungeon. But nobody seems to like her, and from what I've seen I'm not too interested.
Persona 5 I'm guessing will probably be the same where I'll feel I'm not missing much if they do a re-release. And essentially this time, all they have to do is release DLC without the hassle of a re-release to get the new stuff so I'll see...
Given the quick turnaround of P4 after P3, I suspect we'll see Persona 6 a lot sooner. Though now that the staff is working with a whole new team on a whole new RPG that may not occur, though spin-offs of P5 like the Ultimax games etc. are likely.
But if the Persona team needs something to do I'd hope for another game similar to Catherine.

Persona 5 won't be on Switch, but what about Persona 5: Platinum?

PC doesn't have very much quality control. Most PC versions run inferior to console versions, and designing games for set hardware is easier than the multiple types of compatibility issues with PCs. Piracy hurts as well. Its not surprising why most developers focus on consoles. The ones that don't are usually low budget studios who can't afford to so they're forced to deal with Steam. |
People who pirate games are unlikely to buy them anyway so saying piracy hurts sales is silly.
While the hardware argument used to make sense when the ps3 and 360 stuck with Power PC chips, now that they use AMD x86 chips the issue us mostly software, hell my media center uses an APU only a version off the one used in them.
Also "bower budget"? Sony and MS take just as much if not more than Steam, and given the stupid number of indy Devs you see on Valves platform, I'd say their easier for low budget people to deal with.
Look at the success of Neptuina on PC, i think it would do any publisher well to consider it, if only just for western markets.
