If I was Shirow Masamune, depending on how much it was in my power, I would dictate that a live-action could only be made if they use Asian or Asian-American actors. Failure to do that means the project has to be scrapped.

Ishikawa and Saito look pretty damn good. Even Johanssen isn't too bad. But great googly moogly, wtf?

Here's how the stage play handled the cyber-eyes (and everything else. Togusa looks fantastic, unlike in these pics. smh). They really need to take a lesson here.

Has Paz been written out?

I think Shirow and I.G. would rather take the money and be happy with an American adaptation which will hopefully drive more interest in the original and the other anime adaptations.

The rest of the world doesn't suffer from the racial-justice-mania that some in the Western world do.

American movies adapts things and changes the cast to their setting. Japan adapts things and changes the cast to their setting. Everyone cashes a cheque. The movie is either good or bad by its own merits.

Hell, if someone in the Middle East wants to adapt the GITS world and put their spin on it with a Middle Eastern cast and culture, go for it.

If you were Shirow Masamune, you wouldn't give a f***, just like the real one. You'd take your check and you'd go back to making porn manga, just like the real one. Razz

Relax people. They're Polaroids from a costume test, and other than the clothing (and maybe hair), they aren't indicative of the final movie. Rolling Eyes

I don't recall people making a big deal about how Hugh Jackman looked almost nothing like Wolverine or How every actor whose played Batman with the exception of Micheal Keaton and Ben Affleck was a brunette.

First, they look like a bunch of criminals from a Blade Runner prison, hired by police department to fight against the Replicans.

Second, the writers have mentioned that they are taking the original manga as source material, so don't misjudge it by comparing to Mamoru Oshii''s work. It may be good or bad or whatever.

I think the movie may be decent. I notice when other Japanese franchises are adapted in the US, no one really cares. When it comes to anime and manga, people freak out. When Old Boy 2014 was coming out, no one bitched about the casting when the original manga is set in Japan. When GITS is now being made into live action in the US, people act like if it is the end of the world. The movie could be a decent film unlike Dragon Ball Evolution. DBE had bad producers and writers working on the movie and was made due to Fox not wanting to lose the license.
